[Bug 278431] Re: system hangs after logging in
** Description changed: I recently upgraded from Hardy Heron to Intrepid Ibex Beta. The upgrade went fine. But, when I restarted my machine and logged in to my account, the system hangs. A blank screen is displayed with a mouse cursor and the keyboard doesn't work at all. But when I press the power button on my CPU, the system shutdowns after a certain period but nothing is displayed on the screen except for a cursor. I even tried with Failsafe GNOME session but it resulted the same. Same problem in live-cd also!! When I logged in to Failsafe Terminal and open program like firefox, it works fine but without window borders. When trying to start nautilus or metacity, some errors appeared which tells something like 'failed to make connection to' + + [lspci] + 00:00.0 Host bridge [0600]: Intel Corporation 82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]/GE/PE DRAM Controller/Host-Hub Interface [8086:2560] (rev 03) + Subsystem: Intel Corporation 82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]/GE/PE DRAM Controller/Host-Hub Interface [8086:2560] + 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation 82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]/GE Chipset Integrated Graphics Device [8086:2562] (rev 03) + Subsystem: Intel Corporation 82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]/GE Chipset Integrated Graphics Device [8086:2562] -- system hangs after logging in https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/278431 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 278431] Re: system hangs after logging in
The issue is listed in the ubuntu release notes as "Hangs with desktop effects on Intel 830MG and 845G video cards" I turned off the Visual Effects and everything is working fine. [Bug 278431] Re: system hangs after logging in
This sounds like a broken monitor EDID issue, although there isn't EDID info listed in the Xorg.0.log. Could you collect the output of `get- edid | parse-edid` (from the read-edid package) and post here? For working around the issue, I've outlined some steps at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Config/Resolution and http://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/Resolution, which might help. Also if I'm correct that it's an EDID issue, then the issue is going to be particular to your monitor, so if you have a different one on hand you could try it. 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation 82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]/GE Chipset Integrated Graphics Device [8086:2562] (rev 03) Subsystem: Intel Corporation 82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]/GE Chipset Integrated Graphics Device [8086:2562] -- system hangs after logging in https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/278431 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 278431] Re: system hangs after logging in
Hi sujinjoshi, Please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn`, and attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log file from after reproducing this issue. If you've made any customizations to your /etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that as well. ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- system hangs after logging in https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/278431 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
