I opt for giving icons back! This applet replaces Hardy's shutdown applet which contained nice icons already. I would consider no icons as regression! Ted, you wrote: "The decision was made to remove the icons to keep the menu clean and reduce visual clutter." Please be more specific: who made this decision? There is no cohesion in this decision: if "online", "away", "offline" etc options have icons, why other options have no icons at all? If you want to keep the menu clean, then make up your mind: remove all icons or put icons to all menu elements. As an example: gnome-power-manager applet and it's menu contains icons in menu for all elements. These icons are disabled by default in gconf, so this is a win-win situation. I personally find the "clean" menu to present a rather annoyingly small target without much to distinguish the individual entries. I'm attaching a screenshot from my laptop, which shows how small the menu is, and how cramped the entries are. Icons would actually help to distinguish the entries from one another. Please reconsider this: I suppose icons are put to quickly find the item we're looking for, not to add clutter without this being useful. I hope that you will not decide to remove all icons from the menus. Actually every menu item has icons (applications, places, system); this is the only menu which does not have icons! It's an inconsistency.
