Public bug reported:

This is similar to some other bugs reported except that it's on the
latest version of the ubuntu kernel (2.6.24-19-generic), on a fairly new
system (ZaReason Ubuntu Homebox with Intel Core 2 Duo chip, 64bit), and
doesn't seem to respond to any of the fixes suggested in other bug
reports. When I resume from a suspend, sounds simply does not work on
rhythmbox, exaile, or skype; whether on headphones or external speakers.
Logging out and back in again does not fix the problem, only rebooting
does.

I have tried the following fixes from various discussion threads & bug
reports, none of which solve the problem:

Set ACPI_SLEEP_MODE=standby in /etc/default/acpi-support
sudo /etc/init.d/alsa-utils restart
sudo killall pulseaudio (probably doesn't apply to my system, but tried it
anyway)

Changing settings in sound preferences & in volume control (changed
device).

sudo alsa suspend followed by sudo alsa resume

I am attaching a file with a variety of log outputs and such to help
solve the problem.

** Affects: linux (Ubuntu)
