[Bug 279867] Re: NetworkManager messes up DNS and wired network options

2012-02-28 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
Thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu. Intrepid reached EOL on April 30,
2010.
Please see this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

We've fixed resume from hibernate in NetworkManager specifically in
Lucid or some similar release (Maverick maybe?). It of course depends on
proper support for hibernate by the hardware itself.

The symptoms you're describing look a lot like if there was
configuration in /etc/network/interfaces for the network devices. If
there is, please consider if it's something that can be removed. Such
configuration will be imported by marked "read-only" by NetworkManager
(because the interface is managed elsewhere).

Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 279867] Re: NetworkManager messes up DNS and wired network options

2009-11-17 Thread Kan Enas
Almost the same problem here. etc/resolv.conf is wiped on every reboot
and I have manually to add the nameservers.

(by the way I have to use a static IP and I use shrew vpn)

I tried to make read only the /etc/resolv.conf but it does not work.

Ubuntu amassed me from release 6.06 and on but lately it is really
buggy.

[Bug 279867] Re: NetworkManager messes up DNS and wired network options

2008-10-21 Thread Julien Aubin
Same issue there. Actually my /etc/resolv.conf often gets cleared by
networkmanager at reboot. However I don't know what triggers the issue.

I have two network interfaces, my mainboard is an Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe.
One network interface is desactivated, and the network manager always
clears the /etc/resolv.conf file.

The issue is fairly critical for novice users who won't be able to go to
the internet because of this issue.

The only WA consists in rewriting manually the /etc/resolv.conf file
every time it gets cleared.

[Bug 279867] Re: NetworkManager messes up DNS and wired network options

2008-10-08 Thread Irios
Every time the computer is rebooted, NM believes eth0 is unavailable and
switches to wireless. In order to get a reliable net connection, it is
necessary to switch to wired and then edit resolv.conf to add a
nameserver line

[Bug 279867] Re: NetworkManager messes up DNS and wired network options

2008-10-07 Thread Irios
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: network-manager

I was using Intrepid Beta, and wired & wireless networking used to work fine.
After (failed) resurrection from hibernation (don't know if it has something
to do, but it just might), networking is a mess.
+
+ ** NETWORK MANAGER ERRONEOUSLY REPORTS WIRED CONNECTION DOWN

  * The wired connection, which has a fixed IP, is reported disconnected
by NM, but is reported correct by ifconfig.

  * The network parameters shown by NM for eth0 are funny: the address is
OK and the setting is reported "manual", which is right, but no DNS
entry is shown, and the mask is set to "24" instead of "192.168.0.255"
  as shown by ifconfig.

  * Edition of these parameters in NM fails after the "accept" button with the
message dialog:
"failed updating connection: nm-ifupdown-connection.c:82 - connection update
not supported (read only).."

+ ** NETWORK MANAGER HAS WIPED OUT RESOLV.CONF
+
  * resolv.conf has been wiped out, and now only contains the message "#
Generated by NetworkManager". Adding the line "nameserver 192.168.0.1"
- makes the web visible again, although NetworkManager still considers the
- network unavailable.
+ makes the web visible again, although NetworkManager still show the
+ network as unavailable.
+
+ ** WIRELESS IS CONFIGURED OK, BUT WORKS EXXXTTTRRREEEMMMLLLYYY
+ SLOWLY

  * If wireless is activated, a link is established with the router, and
- resolv.conf is wiped again and replaced with something that works. Going
- back to wired blanks resolv.conf again.
+ resolv.conf is wiped again and replaced with something that looks like:
+
+ #Generated by NetworkManager
+ domain home
+ search home
+ nameserver 192.168.0.1
+
+ * NetworkManager now reports the network as available, but it does not
+ work right. A ping to a web address (say google.com) takes about 5
+ seconds to start, although then it proceeds at the normal rate and with
+ normal ping times. Pinging the resolved address is no faster. Web pages
+ take ages to load or more typically time out. apt-get update takes more
+ than an hour.
+
+ An internal ping to my network is instantaneous.
+
+ Going back to wired blanks resolv.conf again.
+
+ ** THERE MAY BE MORE THAN ONE PROBLEM. UNINSTALLING NM DOES NOT FIX IT

  * uninstalling NM, wiping its traces and reinstalling does not fix the
problem. (maybe there are more traces left than I wiped out)
