Public bug reported:

I'm running a currently updated version of Intrepid on my desktop
machine. While not visually impaired I need to use gnome-orca to magnify
a portion of my desktop screen so I could clearly demonstrate a poor
typeface and typeface sizing choice for a developing website.

I fired up orca. I then decided to alter the preferences a bit. First I
turned off the sound. This seemed to work properly. I then went to
preference->magnifier-> and enabled the magnifies capability. I also
went to position and hit the drop-down and selected the "custom" option.
The second I made this selection the X-server died. GDM respawned and I
was able to log in again, all the while an orca process somewhere was
still reading something random and in many languages. I couldn't find
anything directly from within the desktop so I type Control/Alt F1 to
get to a virtual terminal session. The second I did this I was greeted
with a corrupt virtual terminal that had no prompt. Eventually, Orca
stopped reading the random information, but I was never able to get
control of the desktop again without a reboot.

I have been able to repeat the problem multiple times with the exact
same result! I have to say I'm glad I'm not visually impaired because if
I were I would be loading another OS at this point!
