Using a video codec that is actually usable would be a clear advantage here. Anyway, please ensure your system is completely up-to-date, reboot and try to reproduce the issues. The video codec is MPEG4 which MPlayer as shipped by Ubuntu has no problems playing. If it doesn't work for you I can transcode it, just tell me which codec you prefer. Anyway I see that some new updates have become available on the Norwegian mirror in the last few hours, I'll try to reproduce after installing them and rebooting as you requested. Stay tuned. It seems better now after the upgrade, during my MPlayer loop test KDMs grayscale spiral image does _not_ flicker in anymore. When the bug hit, it seemed like system got stuck exactly when the flickered-in image appeared, right before the normal KDE workspace was supposed to show. Since the flickered-in image does not appear any longer I suppose there's nowhere the system will get stuck either, so the bug is likely fixed. I'll close the bug for now as fixed, and will just reopen it if I come across it again (and I won't bother figuring out how to transcode to Theora either). Impressive how fast that bug got fixed. ;-) Do you know which package/patch fixed the bug? I'd be interested in trying to downgrade it to confirm (if it won't cause too much dependency problems, anyway).
