[Bug 282315] Re: Gnome-sudoku timings all wrong

2010-01-20 Thread Michael Wood
What appear to be two separate bugs are being marked as dups of this bug
report:

The following reports are about the reported time being way too long:
Bug #348373
Bug #376212
Bug #376535
Bug #381529
Bug #382192
Bug #405025
Bug #446705
Bug #492069

with this one being the worst I've seen:
Bug #455027 ("Congratulations! You completed the puzzle in 793 years, 8 months,
2 weeks, 6 days, 6 hours, 48 minutes and 51 seconds (9 years, 9 months, 1 week,
5 days, 21 hours, 44 minutes and 31 seconds active)
You got 2 hints")

These usually seem to have reasonable times for the "active" time, but
the latter also has that wrong.

These two reports don't specify if the time is less than one minute (like this
one) or longer than expected, so I can't say whether they are duplicates of
this bug or the too long bug:
Bug #437946
Bug #458926

This is the only actual duplicate as far as I can see:
Bug #465315

[Bug 282315] Re: Gnome-sudoku timings all wrong

2010-01-19 Thread James H Boyd
While this bug doesn't affect solving the Sudoku puzzle, it leaves a bad
impression--especially for a newbie, who may try playing the game during
his/her initial trial of Ubuntu. After all, timing how long it took you
to solve the puzzle is 'obviously' easy. E.g., just save computer's
clock at start and at end and subtract. The program works so neatly
while you're solving the puzzle!

Actually, it appears that a patch has been submitted for this problem
(see https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=556932#c10). I don't
know how long it will take for this to filter through to Ubuntu. Maybe
it will be fixed in Lucid.

[Bug 282315] Re: Gnome-sudoku timings all wrong

2009-11-28 Thread Mal Gamble
I have also found that Sudoku in Karmic always reports game times of
about 58 seconds.

After having a bit of a look around the source, it seems that the
problem relates to the autosave function. Autosave is triggered ever 60
seconds (or the time set by gconf /apps/gnome-
sudoku/auto_save_interval). On each autosave, the module saver.py
triggers a "timer.finish_timing" event. This stops the timer and means
that the final reported game time will be incorrect.

I found that by setting the autosave interval to a large number (I used
6), autosave is effectively disabled and the timer works correctly.
I also tried setting this to zero, but this just causes the program to
default to 60 seconds.

I'm not sure if there are any serious consequences of disabling the
autosave feature. I guess it just means that the game state could be
lost if the session is ended unexpectedly.

Yes, it worked in 8.04, 8.10, 9.04. It's really no big deal because it
doesn't affect the game play in anyway. The only problem is no one believes
I solved the problem in 58 seconds...vincew

2008-10-25 Thread Hew McLachlan
Reassigning to gnome-games. I can confirm this as well with gnome-games
1:2.24.1-0ubuntu2. I just played a game for about 20 minutes and it
reported 20-something hours. I've also had the 58 second problem. Here's
another game I just played to test:

You completed the puzzle in 2 hours, 12 minutes and 8 seconds (5 minutes
49 seconds active)

I think the active time is more accurate, even though I had the game
active the whole time.
