Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to improve
ubuntu. Could you please report the version of ubuntu that you are using
via 'lsb_release -rd' or System - About Ubuntu, it may be helpful later
on to someone. I am guessing ubuntu 8.04 from your kernel version. To my
knowledge virtualbox-ose-modules should not effect your wireless
performance. Im using the same card and virtualbox did not effect it,
however, now im using intrepid. If you know or could find out the
package that deals with your wireless drivers it would be good to add
that under affects above so that the correct people will be notified.
Please feel encouraged to keep reporting any bugs you find.

I have updated the initial report to include:
(1) the version of Ubuntu 8.04.1
(2) the wireless card does work if I boot using the old kernel 
(2.6.24-19-generic)

  On upgrading to the 2.6.24-21-386 kernel my wireless card stopped
