[Bug 285604] Re: P4M90-M4 motherboard not well supported

2008-11-16 Thread ricardisimo
Hey there everyone. The part about which I am uncertain is the after a
failed autodetection. As I mentioned, I altered my xorg.conf file
shortly after installing Hardy, and Intrepid was an upgrade via Update
Manager, so I believe it remained as I left it. The graphics work now,
that's all I can say, so I imagine that it is autodetecting properly
now. [Sound is still a bit sketchy, but I don't know if that is the
motherboard or recent bugs involving ALSA.]

In any event, the file you requested does exist, and I am attaching it
here, but I don't know if it will help you at all. Once again, let me
know if I can some how simulate the problem with LiveCD.

2008-11-16 Thread IanW
This bug report is being closed due to your last comment regarding this
being fixed with a change of driver. We'll close this bug until another
user can reproduce it with a fresh install. If it recurs for you, please
feel free to reopen the bug. Thank you for providing your log
information (extremely useful to confirm the bug when reopened), and for
documenting the driver workaround.

For future reference you can manage the status of your own bugs by
clicking on the current status in the yellow line and then choosing a
new status in the revealed drop down box. You can learn more about bug

[Bug 285604] Re: P4M90-M4 motherboard not well supported

2008-11-14 Thread IanW
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it without more information.

Please include the following additional information, if you have not already
done so (pay attention to lspci's additional options), as required by the
Ubuntu Kernel Team:
1. Please include the output of the command uname -a in your next response.
It should be one, long line of text which includes the exact kernel version
you're running, as well as the CPU architecture.
2. Please run the command dmesg dmesg.log after a fresh boot and attach the
resulting file dmesg.log to this bug report.
3. Please run the command sudo lspci -vvnn lspci-vvnn.log and attach the
resulting file lspci-vvnn.log to this bug report.

For your reference, the full description of procedures for kernel-
related bug reports is available at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies Thanks in advance!

2008-11-14 Thread ricardisimo
I'm not sure i would know how to do that, especially since I've already
altered my xorg.conf to use the vesa driver. The LiveCD might fail
again... would that produce a proper output for you?

[Bug 285604] Re: P4M90-M4 motherboard not well supported

2008-10-21 Thread ricardisimo
I should also have mentioned that the kind gentleman at the store where
I purchased the motherboard tried out a PCI-Express video card of the
nvidia flavor which should have worked, but did not... it behaved
exactly the same as the onboard graphics. Hence my assertion that the
problem is with the motherboard support rather than the Chrome9 HC IGP.
I'm largely computer illiterate, however, so take all of this with a
hefty grain of salt.

Secondly, I was a bit concerned when I tried the Beta version of
Intrepid just to see if anything had been worked out. It's actually
much, much worse now. Before I had to peer through static-like video
noise to make out what my mouse pointer was doing on-screen. Now there
is a small, non-interactive smudge in the middle of a completely black
screen once the LiveCD installer gets going. My assumption is that I can
still safely upgrade to 8.10, but a fresh install (the method
recommended quite heavily in the forums) seems unlikely.

Please advise, and thank you once again for everything that you do.
