While OOo 3.0 in general has similar performance characteristics to OOo 2.4, I've found that all UI elements, including menus and toolbar buttons, flicker on refresh, such as when hovering over them. (However, they do not flicker on subsequent refresh, such as when I move the cursor away and back over again.) Form-based windows, such as at Tools ->Options, take up to a second to draw all widgets in the window. Just tried -- makes no difference, even after restarting OOo. In any case, the 1s redraw time I mentioned may be exaggerated. It's a split second, but long enough to notice and certainly long enough to capture mid drawing. I suspect the video driver is misconfigured, since I only get ~500fps in glxgears with or without Compiz. There's nothing in my xorg.conf, but this is an Intel 945 GME chipset, so I guess the intel driver. FWIW, the hardware is an MSI Wind U100 laptop with 1024x600 resolution display and 1.6 GHz Atom processor.
