[Bug 293012] Re: glxinfo badRequest (invalid request code or no such operation)

2012-05-16 Thread David Watson
I had a similar problem which I solved by reistalling my graphics drivers. I'm
running an AMD card on ubuntu 64. I followed the guide here.
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/ATI
I hope this helps

so how do I fix this? get X working with 3D accelleration?
It's not as if it's a NEW chipset. The thing worked fine back in hardy. Jaunty
caused problems with lockups and now it won't work with any GL apps at all!

[Bug 293012] Re: glxinfo badRequest (invalid request code or no such operation)

2010-02-19 Thread Wolmir Nemitz
Removing xorg-driver-fglrx worked for me as well. I am an Intrepid user,
recently upgraded from Hardy. It's kind of a miracle though, because I have
direct rendering now, which I didn't with 8.04. Nautilus, however, is still
crashing.
Anyway, thank you guys. You were quite helpful.

[Bug 293012] Re: glxinfo badRequest (invalid request code or no such operation)

2010-01-26 Thread Amaroq
I don't know if this was entirely related to this bug, but my problems
have gone away.

At one point, I got tired of dealing with a buggy system, and decided to
go about trying to fix the problems I was having. Through my attempts to
fix an unrelated problem, I suddenly realized that I wasn't using the
most updated kernel.

I dual boot, and my /boot is on a different partition. However, this
partition is not mounted into Ubuntu's /boot directory once Ubuntu is
loaded. (I used this boot partition for trying to install gentoo, and
now I just use it to boot Ubuntu or Windows.)

I realized that, even though I was installing new versions of the kernel
from the repository, I wasn't actually using them. I had to manually
edit my boot partition's grub.conf. Then suddenly, the problem went
away.

I was using Ububtu 9.10 by this time though, so I'm not sure whether
this bug got fixed before or not. Just that my finally using the newest
kernel fixed all problems I was having with fglrx.

I installed a ATI Radeon 2600 PRO AGP, after removing the card and
restoring xorg.conf XGL was broken. I had to remove everything related
to fglrx to make it work again.

Tested in 9.10 with proprietary drivers.

2009-02-20 Thread Amaroq
Update:

I went to System > Administration > Hardware Drivers and removed the
proprietary fglrx driver, then restarted my computer. glxinfo and
glxgears started working again, and told me I had direct rendering.
However, turning on compiz gave me a completely white screen, and all
sides of the 'cube' were completely white. That's another subject
though.

Anyway, when I reactivated fglrx, this bug came back. glxinfo gave the
same erroneous output and I no longer have direct rendering.

I had the same problem, and it turns out that the glx module was not
loaded in the kernel. The following lines in the xorg.conf fixed my
problem:

Section "Module"
Load"glx"
EndSection

(or I guess just add the line loading the glx if you already load other
modules). Maybe some dpkg-reconfigure or re-installing/re-loading the
graphics driver will have the same effect.

[Bug 293012] Re: glxinfo badRequest (invalid request code or no such operation)

2009-01-09 Thread Bryce Harrington
It's just that whenever we start a new dev release, after plugging in
the new kernel and/or xserver, all the drivers have to be rebuilt
obviously, and with the proprietary binary drivers it takes longer to
get them updated since we can't do that ourselves.

[Bug 293012] Re: glxinfo badRequest (invalid request code or no such operation)

2009-01-09 Thread Michael Jones
I'm not sure what happened, but I am now able to run blender,
warzone2100, and vegastrike, the programs I wasn't able to run on
Jaunty.

This issue may still not be resolved for people with intrepid.

[Bug 293012] Re: glxinfo badRequest (invalid request code or no such operation)

2008-12-19 Thread Daniel
Mihaly, what version of ubuntu are you using? Could you please post the
results for:

$ lsb_release -a
and
$ apt-cache policy xserver-xorg-core

I'm marking this bug report as invalid, since this is a known issue for
Alpha 2, and cannot yet be fixed. See
http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/jaunty/alpha2

"A new XServer, version 1.6, is included in Alpha-2. The binary
proprietary drivers -fglrx and -nvidia are not yet supported for this
server and will exhibit various serious issues if run against it. Users
of these drivers are encouraged to wait or to switch to the
corresponding open source drivers (-ati and -nv respectively) in the
meantime. 308410"

[Bug 293012] Re: glxinfo badRequest (invalid request code or no such operation)

2008-12-19 Thread Mihaly Nyeste
I found a solution what worked for me.

All attached logs contains this error, maybe my solution is useful for
you as well:

(EE) fglrx(0): atiddxDriScreenInit failed, GPS not been initialized.
(WW) fglrx(0): ***
(WW) fglrx(0): * DRI initialization failed! *
(WW) fglrx(0): * (maybe driver kernel module missing or bad) *
(WW) fglrx(0): * 2D acceleraton available (MMIO) *
(WW) fglrx(0): * no 3D acceleration available*
(WW) fglrx(0): * *

Based on this https://bugs.launchpad.net/fglrx/+bug/292771/comments/9 it
means that the neccessary kernel module has not been loaded.

I performed the following

# apt-get remove --purge xserver-xorg-video-radeon

# apt-get remove --purge fglrx-kernel-source

# apt-get install fglrx-amdcccle fglrx-kernel-source xorg-driver-fglrx
xorg-driver-fglrx-dev

After restarting X everything is working.
