[Bug 293485] Re: no working driver, problem with hal

2011-06-30 Thread Timo Aaltonen
The driver in ubuntu is not the same as what Penmount releases (which is
a closed source blob), and this turned into a bug about the closed one.
Active development is not what I'd say about the driver in the same
sentence, as upstream puts it:

This driver is one of the legacy input drivers that you almost certainly
don't want to use. Use the kernel driver instead (if one exists) or write
one (if none exists). This release brings the usual input ABI updates,
cleanups, etc.

That was from the release notes of 1.5.0 release earlier this week.

There in fact is a kernel driver for penmount, which means that you
should already use the -evdev X driver by default. If not, file a bug
against -evdev, same thing if there are problems with it.

[Bug 293485] Re: no working driver, problem with hal

2011-06-29 Thread Mihnea-Costin Grigore
@Timo: The bug was filed against a Ubuntu package, which is actually still
alive and well, under active development:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-penmount/1:1.4.99+git20101202.6658e9ad-0ubuntu2

While Penmount does supply separate linux drivers, this bug had nothing
to do with those and everything to do with the Ubuntu package.

So what's with the invalid status, it should be left at fix
committed if that solved the issue, but the bug was very much VALID
when opened.

This bug report was filed against an old version of Ubuntu.
Can you confirm whether this is still an issue in natty?

If you don't mind, it would be very helpful if you could update the bug
report in launchpad to 'Fix Released' if it is no longer an issue for
you, or if it is still occurring under natty, please tag the bug 'natty'
so it's easier for us to track.

symptom works but not on screen edges is present without any penmount

[Bug 293485] Re: no working driver, problem with hal

2009-02-28 Thread reh4c
At www.penmount.com, you can find touchscreen drivers for all of the recent
ubuntu releases (and other Linux distros as well). Thanks to Penmount for
working on Linux drivers.
After downloading and following the instructions for the 8.10 driver, my
kohjinsha netbook touchscreen does work quite well. However, I need to adjust
for the touchscreen sensitivity not quite extending all the way to the sides
bottom/top of the screen. This driver is easy enough to install, but is there
any way to get this included with Ubuntu Netbook remix? I see the Calibrate
Touchscreen menu item under Admininstration for Alpha 5 of 9.04 but this only
works for evtouch touchscreens. I guess this comment is more of a wishlist for
touchscreen support than any value-added info for this bug. Thanks.

[Bug 293485] Re: no working driver, problem with hal

2009-01-28 Thread Mihnea-Costin Grigore
I have the same problem with a Gigabyte M912M netbook. The touchscreen is a
Penmount version and it is detected by X.Org and working perfectly, however it
lacks calibration. There seems to be no calibration tool or other means of
configuration available. The manufacturer provides a (new, closed-source)
driver but I haven't used it due to the invasive changes it requires:
http://www.penmount.com.tw/down_2_1.php

Since the device works well as it is, it should be relatively easy to
add calibration tools for it, right?

Attached 'lsusb -n' output for the device, will also add 'lspci -vvnn'
later.
