[Bug 297594] Re: error with USB cameras and PTP mode

2009-09-02 Thread kernel-janitor
Hi hauke,

Please be sure to confirm this issue exists with the latest development
release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/karmic . If the issue remains,
please run the following command from a Terminal
(Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and
attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 297594

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would
be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the
issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once
you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-
testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon
next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and
deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your
results.

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 297594] Re: error with USB cameras and PTP mode

2009-06-07 Thread joyfm
It's annoying that this problem is still not fixed. It seems it has
something to do with cameras which support PTP (Photo Transport
Protocol) AND registering as a mass storage device. I think there was in
2005 some disscussion on the gnome-volumemanger maillinglist.

...but for the bug report - same problem here with Kodak Easyshare Z8612
IS under Ubuntu 9.04

[Bug 297594] Re: error with USB cameras and PTP mode

2009-05-04 Thread Brennan
I also had an issue with improper mounting of my Nikon CoolPix 4600.
Similar to what Maxcel did above with his camera, on the camera, I went
to Set Up -> Interface and changed the USB option to PTP instead of
Mass Storage. It automounts fine now and I can access my pictures
without a problem.

[Bug 297594] Re: error with USB cameras and PTP mode

2009-02-05 Thread Maxcel
The media_automount did not work for me, but the following did, without
changing the media-automount setting.

On the camera go to Menu -> Setup Menu -> USB and change the USB
Configuration from 'Disk Drive' to 'Digital Camera'.

My particular model is a HP Photosmart R507, but it throws the same
error in Disk Drive mode. The actual menu navigation on individual
cameras may be different, but it may be worth trying.

Yes, that does avoid the problem; thanks. So it's a bug in Nautilus /
Gnome automounting I guess?

2008-12-19 Thread denik
It's not a bugfix but a possibility to avoid the bug and get the
pictures from your camera:

1. start "gconf-editor" (via console)
2. go to "/ → apps → nautilus → preferences" and remove the checkmark for
"media_automount"

[Bug 297594] Re: error with USB cameras and PTP mode

2008-12-19 Thread Adam
I have the same problem with my HP Photosmart 635, which is just a USB
mass storage device. I notice that in the older versions in which it
worked, it would appear as a /dev/sdXX (e.g. /dev/sdb and /dev/sdb1)
device. In Ubuntu 8.10, it doesn't, and instead appears as
/dev/usb- or something like that. But attempts to mount that
device fail. The camera itself claims to be connected to the computer
though.

[Bug 297594] Re: error with USB cameras and PTP mode

2008-11-18 Thread nightwing
The same problem here with an IXUS 55 and an IXUS 850.

** Description changed:

Since upgrading to Ubuntu 8.10 my camera has a permission problem. When
pluging the camera cabel into my computer an error messege appears like:

CANON Inc Digital Ixus 55 (PTP mode)/Powershot SD450 (PTP mode couldn`t
be mounted. Error initializing camera: -60: couldn`t reserve the camera
alone (sorry for my bad german-english translation).

The camera works fine under 7.10 & 8.04
I found some other users in the german support forum with the same problem.
This is a (incomplete?) list of cameras wich doesn`t work anymore:

  canon ixus 55
  Caplilo G3
  HP PhotoSmart 720
  Nikon 4200
  Fuhitsu F31/fd
+ canon ixus 850
+ canon ixus 75 (maybe all ixus types)
+ panasonic cameras
  .

[Bug 297594] Re: error with USB cameras and PTP mode

2008-11-13 Thread radon
I have got the same problem with my Logitech ClickSmart 310. The error
message is nearly the same.

Now in Nautilus' sidebar the camera appears twice. One is mounted, the
other isn't. And when I open 'computer:///' the camera appears three
times, but also only one is mounted. (--> screenshot in attachment)

In /dev/ is no file 'video' or 'video0'.
