This happens to me on Xubuntu Meerkat on my laptop. I'm having the same problem here - using Ubuntu 7.10 with the themed face browser. What makes it even worse: when switching resolutions, it seems to choose one that my monitor can't understand thus leaving me with a blank screen (and an error message by the monitor). This is happening in the feisty daily build... it happens whenever the monitor goes to sleep.
