Public bug reported:

When upgrading to Intrepid, the keyboard section of /etc/X11/xorg.conf
is commented out, and a comment is added:

# commented out by update-manager, HAL is now used

This leaves the user completely in the dark as to where the HAL is, how
it is configured, etc. Furthermore, the new location is known
(/etc/default/console-setup) and the settings can in be copied there in
some cases. Setting a compose key, for instance, is easy IF you know
where to find it. And setting a compose key should not be difficult in
my opinion. When moving settings, please provide pointers to the new
location.

(My current OS version: Xubuntu 8.10 with "proposed" packages enabled,
package version: 1.1.3.1-1ubuntu2 )
