[Bug 301694] Re: "ipw2200: Failed to send SYSTEM_CONFIG" but mostly works

2009-07-28 Thread Colin King
Ken, can you let us know what value you get when you do the following:

cat /sys/module/ipw2200/parameters/associate

If it's 1, then can you do the following:

as sudo create the file /etc/modprobe.d/ipw220 and add to it the
following:

options ipw2200 associate=0

And reboot. Maybe this will stop that message.

Indeed, `associate` is 0 (though I don't see anything to that effect

I suspend only very rarely (because things like wireless sometimes don't
work afterwards... hmm) and never hibernate (it's been broken since I
upgraded to Jaunty). But at least that spurt on July 27 seems to have
occurred right after a resume from sleep:

$ zgrep "suspend devices" /var/log/kern.log* | cut -d : -f 2- | sort
Jul 13 17:05:05 tigris kernel: [24670.896701] PM: suspend devices took 2.792
seconds
Jul 19 17:11:39 tigris kernel: [ 1149.352704] PM: suspend devices took 3.160
seconds
Jul 2 13:47:21 tigris kernel: [ 206.416694] PM: suspend devices took 3.404
seconds
Jul 27 16:46:30 tigris kernel: [22419.816881] PM: suspend devices took 3.552
seconds
Jul 9 14:13:18 tigris kernel: [ 9538.560698] PM: suspend devices took 3.476
seconds
Jun 15 23:40:29 tigris kernel: [ 5534.624684] PM: suspend devices took 3.128
seconds

So suspend seems to be related to _some_ of those occurrences.

Maybe the other subscribers could report similar stats from their
systems?

Ken, can you let us know what value you get when you do the following:

cat /sys/module/ipw2200/parameters/associate

If it's 1, then can you do the following:

as sudo create the file /etc/modprobe.d/ipw220 and add to it the
following:

options ipw2200 associate=0

And reboot. Maybe this will stop that message.

[Bug 301694] Re: "ipw2200: Failed to send SYSTEM_CONFIG" but mostly works

2009-07-29 Thread Colin King
@Ken,

After digging around a bit, I believe it was fixed, see bug 264104 in
module-init-tools_3.3-pre11-4ubuntu15. Are you happy for me to mark
this as fixed released now?

[Bug 301694] Re: "ipw2200: Failed to send SYSTEM_CONFIG" but mostly works

2009-07-29 Thread Ken Arnold
Oops, I take back that comment! It does still happen intermittently:

$ zgrep SYSTEM_CONFIG /var/log/kern.log*|cut -d ':' -f 2 | sort | uniq -c
  7 Jul 10 14
  2 Jul 10 15
  2 Jul 1 11
  1 Jul 1 21
  3 Jul 14 10
  1 Jul 14 13
  4 Jul 14 14
  8 Jul 14 15
  9 Jul 14 16
  4 Jul 14 17
  8 Jul 14 18
  2 Jul 15 00
  1 Jul 2 17
  2 Jul 23 16
  2 Jul 24 20
 12 Jul 27 16
 24 Jul 27 17
 84 Jul 27 18
 90 Jul 27 19
  2 Jul 3 21
  2 Jul 9 15
  1 Jun 15 20
  2 Jun 16 20

(That's month, day, hour.)

I suspend only very rarely (because things like wireless sometimes don't
work afterwards... hmm) and never hibernate (it's been broken since I
upgraded to Jaunty). But at least that spurt on July 27 seems to have
occurred right after a resume from sleep:

$ zgrep "suspend devices" /var/log/kern.log* | cut -d : -f 2- | sort
Jul 13 17:05:05 tigris kernel: [24670.896701] PM: suspend devices took 2.792
seconds
Jul 19 17:11:39 tigris kernel: [ 1149.352704] PM: suspend devices took 3.160
seconds
Jul 2 13:47:21 tigris kernel: [ 206.416694] PM: suspend devices took 3.404
seconds
Jul 27 16:46:30 tigris kernel: [22419.816881] PM: suspend devices took 3.552
seconds
Jul 9 14:13:18 tigris kernel: [ 9538.560698] PM: suspend devices took 3.476
seconds
Jun 15 23:40:29 tigris kernel: [ 5534.624684] PM: suspend devices took 3.128
seconds

So suspend seems to be related to _some_ of those occurrences.

Maybe the other subscribers could report similar stats from their
systems?
