[Bug 305544] Re: 8.10 non-lan wired network speed slow
Sorry for noticing the above comments. I'm not sure how I solved the issue but I've several hard and karmic systems now that don't exhibit this behaviour. -- 8.10 non-lan wired network speed slow https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/305544 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 305544] Re: 8.10 non-lan wired network speed slow
Hi Sean, This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/karmic . If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report. apport-collect -p linux 305544 Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream- testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance. [This is an automated message. Apologies if it has reached you inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.] ** Tags added: needs-kernel-logs ** Tags added: needs-upstream-testing ** Tags added: kj-triage ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- 8.10 non-lan wired network speed slow https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/305544 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 305544] Re: 8.10 non-lan wired network speed slow
Sean, Alex, I had all of these symptoms, too, but am convinced that -- at least in my case -- it's not actually a bug (or if it is, the workaround is trivial). I eventually noticed that it was just apt that was extremely slow; I switched to a new apt mirror and everything was great. It may be that your problem is different, but I'd urge you to switch mirrors and see if that solves the problem. That said, I'm not sure why the default mirror was so catastrophically slow in the first place, and that also seems like an issue worth fixing. [Bug 305544] Re: 8.10 non-lan wired network speed slow
Hi Sean, I believe I have exactly the same error with my DELL D620 / Ubuntu 8.10 After thousands of searches in all forums I could not find a working solution for this. Did YOU find any solution? If yes, could you please be so kind to post it here? ** Attachment added: "ifconfig, lspci, /proc/interrupts" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/20235782/ubuntu8.10_net1.txt ** Description changed: Hi, Architecture: amd64 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 8.10 I've installed two new Dell entry level servers in two separate sites, and local LAN speed is fine. As soon I go to the Internet (e.g. apt-get update, or http download), the speed is disasterously slow (abandoned apt-get update after 24 hours!). Other machines (e.g. running 7.10) on the same segment, there is no problem. Checked, proxies (none) netmask, routing, tracroutes are fine. SSH transfers are mostly fine, but sometimes stall in one direction. ifconfig shows no errors. Speed is 100 FDX on the card. I suspected a LAN card issues (hw or driver): Nov 27 10:10:17 server3 kernel: [2.555704] eth0: Tigon3 [partno(BCM95722) rev a200 PHY(5722/5756)] (PCI Express) 10/100/1000Base-T Ethernet 00:1e:68:9b:4e:e9 Nov 27 10:10:17 server3 kernel: [2.555706] eth0: RXcsums[1] LinkChgREG[0] MIirq[0] ASF[0] WireSpeed[1] TSOcap[1] Nov 27 10:10:17 server3 kernel: [2.555708] eth0: dma_rwctrl[7618] dma_mask[64-bit] - But after buying and testing another Linksys card, the same behaviour. + iperf tests on the LAN show 10MB locally, and also 40KB via DSL (fine). + Why does it seem to be limited to http? + + But after buying and testing another LAN card (Linksys), the same behaviour.
