Generally it's considered polite to check with the last person who touched the package when doing a merge. This is particularly true early in the release cycle and even more particularly true just after the merge has appeared. I had already prepared a merge and was just checking bugs before I uploaded. If you'd at least mentioned you were interested in doing it, one of us could have been saved the work. I did review your debdiff and it correctly carried forward the previous change. I do think that now that the package has a patch system, we should use it (I've converted the change to a quilt patch). Also you should be checking to see if this change has been reported back to Debian (it hasn't, but I'll take care of it).
