[Bug 305709] Re: no sound in Ubuntu 9.04

2009-08-11 Thread luckyoundead
Yes, this is a problem with the radeon driver's compositing and IXP SB4x0.
For me sometimes with this setup the sound would be crunchy and messed up,
and some other times the sound wouldn't come up at all.
Only solution to this problem as for now AFAIK is to turn off compositing
(System -> Preferences -> Appearance -> Visual Effects -> 'None'), and
restarting the system.

Hope this helps.

[Bug 305709] Re: no sound in Ubuntu 9.04

2009-01-19 Thread Francis Asselin
I have a similar problem

I have just upgrade from 8.10 and I have no sound at all.

I have a compaq r4000 laptop : ATI Technologies Inc IXP SB400 AC'97 Audio
Controller (rev 01) as sound device.
I can see everything in my sound preferences ( ATI IXP AC97 ) is selected like
if everything was working fine but no sound.

the "alsamixer -D hw:0" command also shows me my volume controls and
everything is ok.

I also try to install OSS instead of ALSA and no luck...

thanks and tell me if I can test something else

+ sound configuration option under the system menu section.

- It worked fine til Jaunty, then it worked except the login sound. After
- my most recent update, it don't work at all not. Volume is all the way
- up and nothing's muted. The /etc/modules file wasn't changed during the
- update any ideas???
+ No bootup sound or login sound either.

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see
