[Bug 306152] Re: yaird error: bad device link in /sys/block/sda (fatal

[Bug 306152] Re: yaird error: bad device link in /sys/block/sda (fatal
This Problem seems still to exist. I just dist-upgrade on machine to jaunty and ran in this problem. (the Machine was originally an installed kanotix from 2004, got some dist- upgrade from debian and switched via dist-upgrade to breezy. Then from time to time there wre dist-upgrade via dapper, edgy, feisty, gutsy, hardy, intrepid and finallly jaunty. Nevertheless, a clean install into a small test-partition on the same machine of jaunty doesn't have this problem. After the Upgrade, the machine wasn't bootable, because yaird seems to have killed the initrd-images. After just copying the init-rd-images from the clean install the system works ok, as long as i don't try to install software, because then the configuration of linux-image-packes are invoked again, which kill the initrd-images via yaird. here some output: r...@kata:/boot# dpkg --configure -a Richte linux-image-2.6.28-11-generic ein (2.6.28-11.42) ... Hi Guys, I apologize for the delayed response to your bug that was reported quite some time ago. Can you comment if this is still an issue for you? Did this reappear when you tried to update to say 2.6.27-11? Please let us know. Thanks. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- yaird error: bad device link in /sys/block/sda (fatal https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/306152 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 306152] Re: yaird error: bad device link in /sys/block/sda (fatal
I have the same problem with everything else being the same. I compiled kernel 2.6.27.8 because i needed to get some features enabled in the kernel, but when every thing terminated successfully, I got stuck when I tried to create the initrd.img file, and I dont know how to do it manually, can you help me create it, or teach me how to get mkinitrd.yaird working without giving me (yaird error: bad device link in /sys/block/sda (fatal)). [Bug 306152] Re: yaird error: bad device link in /sys/block/sda (fatal
Hello, In my case Update Manager created kernel image. I created initrd using: mkinitramfs -o [file_name] [kernel_version]. One important thing, do not create initrd file with default name (like: initrd.img-2.6.27-8-generic), because when you run Update Manager to install other software updates, it will remove this initial ramdisk. Change name to yours.
