I could re-enable text in OO by clearing options in it's "View" menu (as described elsewhere. OO 3 also had problems like this too. Disabled the driver and all is well. I can supply H/W & versions if anyone want's that info. Chris, Good call! It's an nvidia driver no. 96.43.09. Any suggestions? I am running an MSI video card. I'd have to open up the computer to see what model it is. This is an old computer that I am trying and so far liking Linux/Ubuntu on. I think I will be getting a netbook or laptop with Ubuntu soon. Best Regards, Mark. What video driver are you using? Is it nvidia by any chance? If so which exact version of the nvidia driver? This sounds like a problem I have heard of often which is caused by the nvidia driver being buggy.
