[Bug 310848] Re: audio cd not recognised
I checked - the DVD region was already set, so this cannot be the problem I'm having. Your response made me check again, though, and for some reason I cannot figure out (maybe one of the recent patches to maverick?) the problem seems to have disappeared - reading audio CD's works now. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/310848 Title: audio cd not recognised -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 310848] Re: audio cd not recognised
Solution for X301 : MATSHITA DVD UJ-844: regionset This DVD-ROM does not like to be unset in terms of region, and by setting it, you should be able to mount DVD's and CD's It refuses to cooperate if unset in terms of region. NOTE, you cannot change region more than 5 times before you are stuck with whatever region you chose. sudo apt-get install regionset sudo regionset set some region I think that should do it at least, worked for me -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/310848 Title: audio cd not recognised -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 310848] Re: audio cd not recognised
I have a Thinkpad x301 (MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ-844) and I still have problems in maverick to recognise audio CD's. It's not the HW (drive works fine in Vista), it's only audio CD's (data CD's work fine). It's 100% reproducible. It has hit not only Ubuntu, but other distirbutions (Fedora, SuSE, ...), too. Still no reasonable solution. This bug has been around now since 2008 - voting it the oldest unfixed bug! ;-) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/310848 Title: audio cd not recognised -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I have a Thinkpad x301 (MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ-844) and I had problems in karmic to recognise audio CDs. Looking for solutions, i found this thread on bugzilla: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=485551 The suggestion: "If your BIOS setup allows it, change the IDE configuration from AHCI to IDE." worked for me! :) maybe the AHCI (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Host_Controller_Interface) is not fully supported yet... ** Bug watch added: Red Hat Bugzilla #485551 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=485551 -- audio cd not recognised https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/310848 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 310848] Re: audio cd not recognised
we're at karmic and still the same, however: I figured how to "fix" it once.. problem being that audio-cds don't really have a file-system (you read them raw).. the fix consisted of killing the polling of the drive (devicekit-disk- daemon), which removes the "Unable to mount Audio Disk" error boxes. Then simply use an app that plays audio CDs (i used VLC) and feed it the device node (/dev/cdrom). however that doesn't seem to always do it.. this time i get a no-medium error when sudo cat-ing the device - which sounds like a kernel error (it's not the disc i tried switching) suggestion from http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-gnome/2008-April/019916.html You need to rebuild libcdio with paranoia support, then rebuild gvfs with CDDA support. However, this error is benign, and will not prevent you from being able to listen to or rip audio CDs. however gvfs-backends depends on libcdio-cdda0 and libcdio-paranoia0 (but which doesn't mean it's compiled in) over at http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/ubuntu-63/audio-cds-wont-play-after-upgrade-to-ubuntu-8.04-639041/ it's suggested to put the user into the haldaemon group and reboot. not working either. helpless :( -- audio cd not recognised https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/310848 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 310848] Re: audio cd not recognised
I have two SATA DVD drives. SH-S223F and SH-S223Q. The later is a lightscribe drive which has stopped recognizing audio cds since my clean install of 9.04 beta.
