Could be a dupe of 220443. But that's for upgrading to Hardy. See bug 297836 for specifics in dealing with an upgrade to Intrepid that involves OO.o, compiz, and nVidia 96.43.09. Assuming you're running Compiz, try switching to Metacity and see if that solves the problem. The package fusion-icon will help with this. Sounds like a duplicate of bug 220443.
