Please disregard comment #59 because the issue was an error in the javascript that was causing a recursive function to be called via javascript improperly. Once this was fixed the flashing hover icon no longer happens. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/312353 Title: improper mouse hover behavior with links -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 312353] Re: improper mouse hover behavior with links
I can replicate this bug consistently on a website that uses javascript code from jQuery, Twitter, and Facebook. I can give the link to the website if desired (it is a website I developed) or the direct link to the simple javascript file so please let me know if that is desired. It appears to happen after a setTimeout is triggered to a javascript function that does innerHTML. The innerHTML file uses data from an XMLHttpRequest (AJAX) to replace data in a div. With Firefox 2.0: hovering the top Flash banner in the site given above always makes the cursor flicker (happens because of the scrolling text below it). With Minefield: sometimes you can get the same behavior as Firefox 2, more or less randomly (depends on various factors, like lost focus, it seems). What happens everytime, however, is when your cursor is out of the banner, and you then move it over the banner. It will flicker for a split second at first (from "arrow" to "hand" pointer), then the "hand" pointer will stay. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Move your cursor over the Flash banner Actual Results: Cursor flickers (can cause lag too). Expected Results: No cursor flickering. Since reinstalling with 10.10 I am also experiencing this bug. It seems to be periodic, in that if left alone, the cursor will change with a particular cycle, even if this is somewhat variable. This exists even if using the stable xorg updates PPA. I just started seeing this bug in 10.10 (maverick), happens in both firefox 3.6.11 and 3.6.12. Seems to happen when flash is loaded, or when a javascript-heavy page is open in one of my tabs. Then, in any tab, whenever I move the mouse, scroll, type, or hover over the location bar, the cursor flickers between the "link finger" and the proper cursor for the context. -- improper mouse hover behavior with links https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/312353 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

This bug was fixed in the package xorg-server - 2:1.5.99.3-0ubuntu4 --- xorg-server (2:1.5.99.3-0ubuntu4) jaunty; urgency=low * 155_dix-don-t-set-the-child-window-for-non-virtual-Enter-Leave-events.patch + Fixes issue where mouse cursor in Firefox blinks when hovering over URLs. Workaround from X.org upstream bug 19086. Problem was that LeaveNotify events with detail NotifyInferior and non-None child windows triggered something in firefox to switch cursor back to arrow instead of the link cursor. A more complete fix has been pushed to upstream git, and sounds like it will be backported for 1.6, at which point we can drop this patch. [Bug 312353] Re: improper mouse hover behavior with links
** Description changed: Binary package hint: firefox-3.1 Using Firefox 3.1 on Kubuntu 9.04 Jaunty, if I move the mouse over a link, the hover function does not work properly. If the mouse is stopped over a link, it remains as the standard cursor. If it is moving, then it rapidly alternates between the standard cursor and the link select cursor. This only happens if at some point I have moused over one of the buttons in the Firefox chrome. I have tried launching Firefox with the -safe-mode switch, but this does not affect the problem. This problem affects functionality because some websites use menus that appear when a link is moused over, and this problem keeps the menu from staying on the screen. + + [Testcase] + open firefox, move into main window, then move up into + menu bar, back into main window and hover over a link.
