[Bug 314854] Re: Logitech Trackball Mouse USB behaves erratically

2009-10-21 Thread Emilio Gallego
I'd say this was a faulty mouse device. Closing this bug.

[Bug 314854] Re: Logitech Trackball Mouse USB behaves erratically

2009-01-22 Thread Bryce Harrington
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-mouse

[Reporting to xserver-xorg-input-mouse as recommended in the wiki]

  Distro: Ubuntu 8.10
Short summary: USB mouse behaves erratically.
  Bugs that could be related: #37929, #51775, #75045, #148589, #300106, #306024

  Hardware: Intel Q9450, Gigabyte ep45c-DS3 motherboard, ddr2 memory ,
Nvidia gtx260 Logitech G15 Keyboard, Logitech G9 mouse, Logitech
  Trackball mouse USB

  Long summary:

After a fresh install of intrepid, a logitech trackball usb mouse
doesn't work properly. First it stopped working in a similar fashion
  like #306024 & #300106.

Then, I unplugged the G9 mouse and the trackball doesn't freeze anymore,
but the mouse behaves erratically. Some examples of bad behaviour:

   - Mouse movement events seem to be lost. (the pointer "jitters")
   - When I click the left button, the pointer moves far away.
   - When I try to move the pointer slowly, the pointer jumps.

The mouse is directly connected. I cannot see any strange message in system
logs.

I tried the noacpi workaround without any success. The mouse works OK in
  Vista.

Please let me know if you need any additional information.

[Bug 314854] Re: Logitech Trackball Mouse USB behaves erratically

2009-01-09 Thread Emilio Gallego
More data:

 - Tried kernels 2.6.24 (didn't boot on this hardware) and jaunty's 2.6.28-4.
The bug persists.
 - Disconnecting the card reader had no effect whatsoever.

I'm puzzled by this bug. Should I go to kernel bugzilla? Any pointers on
how to debug USB devices?

[Bug 314854] Re: Logitech Trackball Mouse USB behaves erratically

2009-01-09 Thread Emilio Gallego
Using 2.6.27-11 makes no difference.

However, if I plug an USB audio Headset, mouse behavior worsens a lot.
May this bug be related to the number of usb devices on the system?

For reference, the card reader on my system enables the following
devices:

77] sd 8:0:0:0: [sdc] Attached SCSI removable disk
[ 703.740381] sd 8:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg3 type 0
[ 703.741366] sd 8:0:0:1: [sdd] Attached SCSI removable disk
[ 703.741427] sd 8:0:0:1: Attached scsi generic sg4 type 0
[ 703.742364] sd 8:0:0:2: [sde] Attached SCSI removable disk
[ 703.742425] sd 8:0:0:2: Attached scsi generic sg5 type 0
[ 703.743357] sd 8:0:0:3: [sdf] Attached SCSI removable disk
[ 703.743419] sd 8:0:0:3: Attached scsi generic sg6 type 0

I'll try to disconnect them and see how it affects mouse movement.

[Bug 314854] Re: Logitech Trackball Mouse USB behaves erratically

2009-01-09 Thread Emilio Gallego
I finally figured out how the input hotplug stuff works.

So I disabled it ("AutoAddDevices" "false") and tried the old mouse
driver. No difference.

So I'm pretty sure this is not a bug in evdev or mouse, as both drivers
display the bug.

So everything points now to the kernel. I'll try an older kernel.

[Bug 314854] Re: Logitech Trackball Mouse USB behaves erratically

2009-01-09 Thread Emilio Gallego
After some uptime I got the following in dmesg:

[113445.300520] usb 8-4: reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and
address 3

About one for 1 hour uptime

I'll try today the following workaround: Disable X/hal auto-config and
manually configure the mouse.

Sorry I missed bug lp:294822.

I'd say this a duplicate of it.
