I am having this problem in karmic. Never had it on any other version of Ubuntu.I just like to use mouse to shut off screen saver. Would like to keep bug open. Ther is no way to get to settings for screensaver. I tried this today using the jaunty live CD and then the bug doesn't repro. I think it's a config issue that I currently got on several machines. I do not have this 'bug' on any of my three laptops nor my three desktops; which covers 8.04 and 8.10; this leads me to believe we may have to look deeper. Please attach your X server configuration file (/etc/X11/xorg.conf) and X server log file (/var/log/Xorg.0.log) to the bug report as individual uncompressed file attachments using the Attachment: box below. Could you please also try to run without any /etc/X11/xorg.conf and let Xorg autodetect your display and video card? Please also attach the /var/log/Xorg.0.log from this attempt.
