This also happens on my Dell laptop. Chris, thanks for the reply. When I edited the boot line I found 'quiet' but no 'splash'. I removed 'quiet', but it made no difference. In order to determine if this issue is usplash related, would you boot your computer with usplash disabled and then shutdown to see if you can reproduce the issue?
