Now on 2.6.28-8.24-generic and running EXA (default on -ati, don't know why it was XAA before), I have been through a bunch of suspend and hibernation cycles without problems. I also saw bug #331415 which could be related. I have been running without ipw2200 loaded for a while, and could suspend and hibernate many times. Now it got hung, but this time sysrq worked, and there was backtrace in Xorg.0.log. I think this is another issue so I will report it separately, it crashed inside libxaa so switching to EXA might change things. I will do all updates and check again. Is this reproducible say over 10 cycles. Has suspend ever worked in the past, if so which kernel release (cat /proc/version_signature)? If it is reproducible could you try the suspend from VT1, press ctrl-alt-F1, login, and run pm-suspend there.
