hi everybody, I'm the omarr who has opened this bug report (just changed my nickname) @Hew McLaclan I haven't installed 10.10 yet, but the problem in previous ones was solved by disabling splash screen and letting the boot messages flow in screen Soon, i'll be able to install it, then I may return with my feedback but temporarily (approximately 1 wk.) omarr that seems fairly odd...as usplash is really a mask with some user input abilities to hide the boot text... (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/USplash) As you only edited the grub boot menu, I believe that no new initrd was generated. This might be a bug in usplash. However, I am not the person to continue examining this bug. In order to determine if this issue is usplash related, please boot your computer with usplash disabled and then shutdown to see if you can reproduce the issue? To disable usplash for a single boot, follow these steps: 1. Press Esc during Grub boot delay to access the boot menu. 2. Select your actual Ubuntu boot line and press "e" to edit it. 3. Select the "kernel" line and press "e" to edit it. 4. At the end of the line, remove "splash" and "quiet" and press "enter". 5. @Savvas Radevic here are the answers 1- I did not. I installed directly Ubuntu 8.10 2- I din not add any. 3- I have not tried it. But I did as db said and it works. I changed grub list. I typed "sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst" and then removed "splash" and "quiet" entries then I restarted BUT IT WORKS. The splash screen doesn't come while starting and shutting down /or rebooting. The lines and commands come but that is not a problem. It shuts down or reboots properly It seems that this bug is solved now. But what will happen in the next update when a new kernel is released? Am I have to do the same things or will ubuntu developers find a new solution for this?
