This should be fixed in Intrepid Alpha 4 and later since the NetworkManager supports PPPoE now. Could be a duplicate of Bug #157993 but it isn't so specific. I had very painful and difficult time trying to figure out how to set up my PPPoE connection. Fedora Core and Xandros make this very easy to do in a GUI manner.
