[Bug 332589] Re: sbackup goes into zombie status

I have Ubuntu 10.0.4.1 server 64 bit
Same problem - remotely logged in using tightvncserver/vino and when I press
the Backup Now button the GUI freezes. The backup appears to have been done
although the resulting files seem a little large - 162G backup of a 75G
filesystem(?). I haven't checked what it stored.

Anyhow, I managed to kill the process from the command line with: sudo
kill -9

Oops...my previous post was a little incorrect. I did ask it to back up
a lot more than 75G so I have no reason to believe its backup process is
faulty. I had not used sbackup until today. Only the freezing GUI is a
definite fault.

PING!

This bug is already there, i backup my 3 computers with the commandline
sudo sbackupd and that is already working. Are there any ideas and
solutions? Has someone try'ed out with karmic packages? Backup is an
essential job, should be fixed soon.

[Bug 332589] Re: sbackup goes into zombie status

2010-05-09 Thread Miles Cowan
Just an update: If I run 'sudo /usr/share/sbackup/sbackup' a new backup
is created per the options set in the GUI, and the backup is then
available in the restore GUI. Pressing Backup Now from the GUI creates
a zombie process that terminates when I close the GUI.

[Bug 332589] Re: sbackup goes into zombie status

2010-04-23 Thread er...@hamburg
Description:Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
Release:10.04 AMD64

Since update to lucid beta the gui can only configure settings, but not
run a backup. Only running sudo sbackupd use the gui settings an drive
the backup. This works well up to karmic and does the job on both i386
karmic machines. The sbackup gui backup now button creates only a
zombie process, the ftp test buttons works well.

[Bug 332589] Re: sbackup goes into zombie status

2010-01-31 Thread Tau
I had this problem--I tried a backup to another computer via SSH, and
the sbackupd process would change to zombie state. (You can see this
in Gnome System Monitor by clicking the View menu, then All
Processes.)

I had just installed Simple Backup Config, as far as I can remember. I
tried doing a backup to the default location (i.e. /var/backup) and that
worked. So then I wanted to stop the backup, only way that worked was to
reboot (killing sbackupd didn't stop the backup files from growing!).
After the reboot, the SSH backup worked just fine. Maybe it has to do
with logging in out, or rebooting???

Hope that helps.

2009-05-08 Thread buurd
The problem occurs in 9.04 when I setup the backup-job though ssh. No
error-message, no error. The process just go zombie. SimpleBackup hangs.

Is there a log or something that I can send you to get you the clues you
need?

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important
for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn
more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a
bug in sbackup.
For future reference you might be interested to know that a lot of applications
have bug reporting functionality built in to them. This can be accessed via the
Report a Problem option in the Help menu for the application with which you are
having an issue. You can learn more about this feature at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.
