[Bug 338707] Re: Marvell Technology Group ethernet card sometimes not detected
i applied the mentioned firmware, and it seems to work now. i did not do any big testing, i just restarted the laptop with an unplugged network cable, and the network card was correctly recognized. i tried it both with batter-power and with normal-power. this is on karmic-current. -- Marvell Technology Group ethernet card sometimes not detected https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/338707 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 338707] Re: Marvell Technology Group ethernet card sometimes not detected
Upgrade the BIOS firmware. >From F02 release notes: "Fixes an issue that occurs on notebooks running a >Linux operating system that are using battery power (DC power) with a LAN >cable plugged in, where the wired network controller (NIC) is not recognized >by the system when the notebook is booted". After upgrading my HP 2140 to F03 (F04 seems to be MS Windows only) the problem disappeared. This bug seems to be related to #297263. -- Marvell Technology Group ethernet card sometimes not detected https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/338707 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 338707] Re: Marvell Technology Group ethernet card sometimes not detected
Sorry I previously missed a few details: * The Marvell ethernet controller is only detected if cable plugged on boot, as the original reporter mentioned. * The error I was referring to above happens even when booting with cable plugged with kernel 2.6.30-8. * This error does not occur booting karmic with previous jaunty kernel (2.6.28-11), as can be seen on the logs attached. The sky2 messages are different on 2.6.28-11: sky2 driver version 1.22 sky2 :02:00.0: enabling device ( -> 0003) sky2 :02:00.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 17 (level, low) -> IRQ 17 sky2 :02:00.0: setting latency timer to 64 sky2 :02:00.0: Yukon-2 FE+ chip revision 0 sky2 :02:00.0: irq 2301 for MSI/MSI-X sky2 eth0: addr 00:24:81:4e:c6:e6 sky2 eth1: enabling interface sky2 eth1: Link is up at 100 Mbps, full duplex, flow control both Since this one seems a different bug, specific to karmic kernel, I'm opening a new bug report. ** Attachment added: "kern_2.6.28-11-generic.log" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/27596862/kern.log -- Marvell Technology Group ethernet card sometimes not detected https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/338707 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
