[Bug 342156] Re: Jaunty : frozen mouse on all my PCs
Valeryan_24 and gerard, thanks for your help, but we need more information. My guess is that this might be related to 64 bits architecture USB implementation. Can you confirm that the USB works on the 64 bits architecture? Re: [Bug 342156] Re: Jaunty : frozen mouse on all my PCs
Hello, Normally yes USB works on 64 bits, as I used it since 2 weeks without any problem. I retried to start my desktop computer, mouse was alternatively working or not. Last, I just retired USB cable from computer and re-connected it, and without restarting Ubuntu, all works again fine since 1 hour, as before, mouse behaves well. Strange... For the laptop, as I thought, I need to reinstall, but home and datas were on separate partitions, so it won't be a problem. I will complete if a problem occurs again. Best regards. [Bug 342156] Re: Jaunty : frozen mouse on all my PCs
Hi Peter regarding your comment: My guess is that this might be related to 64 bits architecture USB implementation. Can you confirm that the USB works on the 64 bits architecture? I don't think it concerns me as long as I've got (appart from my laptop) old PCs from the year 2002. See the characteristics of the mother board. I've got a pure 32 bits (as far as I know) and I installed the regular Jaunty version: jaunty-desktop-i386.iso Do you agree? anything, any log you'd like me to check? just let me know, telling me the command you want me to do. I remind you I'm using live CD Bye ** Description changed: After complete boot-up, I cannot do anything with my mouse completely - frozen. Thank you again for your answer. Still, do you happen to have a USB one around? If it works, we know what the cause is 100%... I am sorry to cause so much trouble. [Bug 342156] Re: Jaunty : frozen mouse on all my PCs
You're very welcome Peter as long as you try to find out what happened. Well , I've got to tell you something that might help. I use these 2 PCs on the same screen, mouse, keyboard. I switch from one to the other one with a device so called KVM switch wich is PS2, but you're right my mouse is actually USB with an USB/PS2 plug adaptor. What I'll do: I send you this piece of info first. I turn down my 2 computer and I plug a REAL PS2 mouse in the KVM so I'll be 100% PS2 and I come back 2U. [Bug 342156] Re: Jaunty : frozen mouse on all my PCs
Bingo Peter. I replaced my USB mouse + USB/PS2 adaptor by a pure PS2 mouse and IT WORKS: no frozen mouse It corresponds finally to other reports saying USB mouse frozen. This is really a USB mouse bug, not PS2 Hope it helps!! [Bug 342156] Re: Jaunty : frozen mouse on all my PCs
Hello, I have a similar problemsince last updates : - On my desktop PC, with Jaunty 64 Alpha 6, no problem until login screen, but when I am on Ubuntu session, mouse does not work correctly. I can moove it and cursor follows the moves on the screen, but almost all clicks do not work. For examle, on the panel with some icons to launch programs like Firefox, Pidgin... I can click to one, it launches the software, but after that I can only re-click to the same icon, no other icons or menu works. Moreover, even if program starts, click on the menu bars or buttons has no effect, (no bookmark on Firefox, no file selection on Nautilus...), but keyboard works fine (I can launch terminal with Ctrl - Alt - F1). What is surprising is that the first occur of this bug was not at startup, but during a session - I was installing another OS in Virtualbox and mouse began to not react anymore. - On my laptop with Jaunty 32 Alpha 5, I was doing the update to Alpha 6 and mouse freezing occured during installation of updates, when I restart, it does not go further than login screen - I think for this one I will have to reinstall. I hope I was clear. [Bug 342156] Re: Jaunty : frozen mouse on all my PCs
Thank you for your report. However, it is hard to know if it is a software or your hardware bug. Please explain what you did and at what stage the mouse didn't respond? Does it work with previous versions? Please also note that Jaunty is still Alpha today (beta release is ~26/March/2009). Thanks again and hope to get more information so we can fix the problem. ** Changed in: ubuntu Status: New = Incomplete -- Jaunty : frozen mouse on all my PCs https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/342156 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 342156] Re: Jaunty : frozen mouse on all my PCs
Hi Peter I started the Jaunty live CD. Doing fine till the end. Got the Desktop display, but when I wanted to move my mouse, it was stuck on the screen, completely frozen. A- This is the case for 2 PCs both equiped with CPU: Duron 1200 MHz 1st one Mother board: MSI KT3-Ultra MS 6380E video: Radeon 7000 2nd one Mother board: MSI KM2M MS6738 video: S3 Graphic Pro Savage DDR B-for the 3rd one I first blocked at the $ prompt. I had to enter startx BUT the mouse is not frozen CPU: Athlon 735 MHz Mother board: MSI MS 6195 video: Elsa Gladiac MX511 C- no freezing on my laptop HP-Compaq 6510b D- on a celeron 1700 MHz I first blocked at the $ prompt. I had to enter startx BUT the mouse is not frozen That's strange isn't it? Actually I'm not the only one because I saw other people with the same freezing problem!! [Bug 342156] Re: Jaunty : frozen mouse on all my PCs
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a bug in xserver-xorg-input-mouse. For future reference you might be interested to know that a lot of applications have bug reporting functionality built in to them. This can be accessed via the Report a Problem option in the Help menu for the application with which you are having an issue. You can learn more about this feature at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs. Can you also tell what kind of mouse (PS2? USB? Model?) Thank you again for your fast response! ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-input-mouse (Ubuntu) Sourcepackagename: None = xserver-xorg-input-mouse -- Jaunty : frozen mouse on all my PCs https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/342156 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

OK, I'll try association next time, but I might be mistaken which would bring people on the wrong lane. To answer your question the mouse is PS2. An ordinary one: 3 buttons + wheel.
