[Bug 346028] Re: [ATI driver specific] Ubuntu Jaunty hangs after usplash with fglrx 8.600 or 8.6002
I had catalyst version 9.5 from the ATI site. I had to download and compile it because the fglrx from the repository was not up to date when Jaunty was released. After the update that installed kernel 2.6.28-13 I lost video. I tried to use the previous fix, removing fglrx and installing the open source driver, but this did not fix the situation this time. -- [ATI driver specific] Ubuntu Jaunty hangs after usplash with fglrx 8.600 or 8.6002 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/346028 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Which version of fglrx? The one in the Jaunty repository (package version should be 8.6002 I suppose) or the last one from the ATI site, i.e. Catalyst 9.6 which should get you after the build process these packages: fglrx-amdcccle_8.620-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb fglrx-kernel-source_8.620-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb fglrx-modaliases_8.620-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb xorg-driver-fglrx_8.620-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb xorg-driver-fglrx-dev_8.620-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb Ciao, Luca On Sat, Jun 20, 2009 at 4:49 PM, David Weiss wrote: > I just updated to the latest release of jaunty and the video went out > again. aticonfig --acpi-services=off doesn't fix the problem with 9.4 or 9.5 (4870x2, jaunty 64) but catalyst 9.6 are working without any tricks for me. -- [ATI driver specific] Ubuntu Jaunty hangs after usplash with fglrx 8.600 or 8.6002 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/346028 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 346028] Re: [ATI driver specific] Ubuntu Jaunty hangs after usplash with fglrx 8.600 or 8.6002
Hi, I've upgrade to Jaunty my HP EliteBook 8530p with an ATI HD3650 and there is no way to use the fglrx driver provided by Catalyst 9.4 **AND** 9.5. I've already fired the following bugs to ATI: http://ati.cchtml.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1550 http://ati.cchtml.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1568 now with the 9.5 I can grab the kernel message and I can safely reboot the machine. See the dmesg attached for the kernel messages. I've tryed with the following kernel: 2.6.28-11 and -12 from Jaunty 2.6.27-11 from Hardy same result. Since with 8.10 the flgrx worked like a charm and was very stable (with Kernel 2.6.27-11), I suppose that the main problem is the incompatibility with Xorg 1.6. It should be nice to have a backport of Xorg 1.5.x to Jaunty :-) I've already tryed to install a recompiled Xorg 1.5 from http://www.kdedevelopers.org/node/3942 but it did not worked. Now I'm using the radeonhd driver (version 1.2.5 from PPA and latest DRM from git) but it is missing 3D acceleration. The support from ATI is not so responsive. ** Bug watch added: ATi Linux Platform Bugs #1550 http://ati.cchtml.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1550 ** Bug watch added: ATi Linux Platform Bugs #1568 http://ati.cchtml.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1568 ** Attachment added: "Kernel dmesg" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/27452795/dmesg -- [ATI driver specific] Ubuntu Jaunty hangs after usplash with fglrx 8.600 or 8.6002 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/346028 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 346028] Re: [ATI driver specific] Ubuntu Jaunty hangs after usplash with fglrx 8.600 or 8.6002
Ok, was able to fix it. I believe what Martin wrote a couple of posts above is correct, but only for cards that are no longer supported. To find out if your card is supported, go to the ATI site (http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html) and try to find a driver for your card. If the driver offered is the 9.4 version, then the proprietary driver should work for your card. However, after upgrading to Jaunty I was experiencing the same problem described in this issue. To cut a long story short, it turns out that my xorg.conf (working fine with the proprietary driver on Intrepid) was no good for this new version. Everything works ok now, after regenerating xorg.conf with the command below, and rebooting. /usr/bin/aticonfig -initial -- [ATI driver specific] Ubuntu Jaunty hangs after usplash with fglrx 8.600 or 8.6002 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/346028 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
