Thanks Mad Max, it works, but only until i reboot, and then i have to
input the "sudo hidd --search" command again. Is this what you're
experiencing? This is a real pain in the butt; I'm very new to
Linux/Ubuntu, and although I'm very impressed, this seems like a really
glaring bug. Something that's been unfixed from previous versions, from
what I've seen on forums going back a few years.

My experience:

Samsung NC10 - Ubuntu Remix (9.04) - Microsoft Mouse 5000

First, follow this procedure:

http://blog.chinthaka.org/2008/09/getting-microsoft-bluetooth-mouse.html

until step 3 (included). Then, instead of step 4, install the bluez-compat
package with synaptic: this package is deprecated by Canonical but it is
working for now.
Next, proceed to step 4 of the guide but just before "sudo hidd --search" push
the connect button on the mouse until the red/green light.

Working by two days with no problems.

Hope this help.

My Microsoft 5000 Bluetooth mouse also does not work under Ubuntu 9.04
(i386 desktop beta). I only semi-works under 8.10. In 8.10 the mouse is
found and will connect. But after a reboot, it doesn't work and I have
to delete the entry and reconnect. In 9.04, it detects the mouse and
even says it connects but the connection is never really made.
