[Bug 350739] Re: Jaunty doesn't read mutimedia card

2010-03-23 Thread virtualspectre8
It works just fine with Karmic. When Jaunty launched, that machine was
very new, maybe the kernel needed to catch up with the hardware. Now it
works like a charm!

Thank you!!!

[Bug 350739] Re: Jaunty doesn't read mutimedia card

2009-07-27 Thread khamil8686
i have this problem also with ubuntu jaunty, sd card isnt recognized by
ubuntu, but putting in a usb device brings up the usb device's contents
and the sd card's contents. i did

 sudo modprobe usb-storage

and then sd card was detected instantly and a window popped up with the contents
when i ran the code it also said

WARNING: All config files need .conf: /etc/modprobe.d/irda-utils, it
will be ignored in a future release.

so maybe this file needs .conf, this WARNING message also comes up when i start
the computer so maybe it has the code to add usb-storage to the kernel in it
and it isnt ran because it is missing .conf
whatever. anyways im going to try adding .conf and rebooting and seeing what
happens :)

[Bug 350739] Re: Jaunty doesn't read mutimedia card

2009-07-27 Thread khamil8686
WORKAROUND (added this so people dont need to read the whole thread for a
solution)
---

I think the module usb-storage isnt loaded during boot for some reason or
another, ive figured out a workaround that seems to work fine for me, hopefully
it solves the problems others have as well :)
i got rid of the error 'WARNING: All config files need .conf:
/etc/modprobe.d/irda-utils, it will be ignored in a future release' by running
the following code to rename irda-utils to irda-utils.conf (whenever 'sudo
modprobe usb-storage' is run it gave me this warning)
 sudo mv /etc/modprobe.d/irda-utils /etc/modprobe.d/irda-utils.conf
this will add .conf to irda-utils after that when i ran
 sudo modprobe usb-storage
which runs modprobe to add the usb-storage module to the kernel with superuser
permissions it never gave me the warning.
so i figured the usb-storage module wasnt being loaded on boot, so i googled
how to add a module to the kernel during boot and i was pointed to the
/etc/modules file
i added this to the bottom of the file

# Add usb-storage module to load so SD cards are recognized
usb-storage

this adds the module usb-storage to the kernel on boot. hopefully this
helps you, if you notice any errors i have made or know of a better
solution please reply so others may benefit! :)

Loading the usb-storage module did the job.

  sudo modprobe usb-storage

Is there a way to do this automatically whenever I insert my card?

[Bug 350739] Re: Jaunty doesn't read mutimedia card

2009-04-07 Thread muhalifsirin
Hello all

I have the same problem as virtualspectre8. I have a sony mp3-player
which used to work well with intrepid and Hardy. I could mount it.
Although I was not able to make it work with Rhythmbox or banshee(they
could see the device but could not install musci), still I could use it
like a USB stick and put songs in it easily

As I said my problem is identical to virtualspectre8's, like i see on my
player's window Connecting USB (MTP) in jaunty, whereas in Hardy and
Intrepid it displayed Connecting only. Although it seems like it is
mounted in file manager window, no player can detect the device, and
also it looks empty when I open the folder. I also can not install
anything in it, I get an error message when I tryy to do so.

I am sending the log files as well

Thanks

This suggestion here gives a temporary solution: (note: you should
restart your system after the procedure)

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gvfs/+bug/330383/comments/3

Now at least I can see what is inside my player. Also Amarok 1.4 seems
to work with it as well. But Banshee or Rhtymbox still do not recognize
the device. For my part, for now I am settled with the solution

2009-03-29 Thread virtualspectre8
I think something has gone wrong because none of those commands do
something in my system, even after restarting it. sudo lspci -vvnn
lspci-vvnn.log asks for my password, after I enter it nothing happens.
Maybe I'm missing a package or something.

I tried different commands and they work as expected. I uploaded a
screenshot of my terminal.

[Bug 350739] Re: Jaunty doesn't read mutimedia card

2009-03-29 Thread virtualspectre8
Stangely I connected my Mp3 player (Sony NWZ series) when it mounted,
the card mounted as well. The card was inserted all this time.

Now since Jaunty my mp3's screen displays a Connecting USB (MTP), in
Hardy and Intrepid displayed Connecting only. In Hardy and Intrepid I
can browse the mp3's filesystem as if it was just another USB device,
with Jaunty that's not the case, I can't browse it at all. When I plug
in the device the autorun prompt pops and gives me the default options
Open Folder, Rhythmbox, Do Nothing If I choose folder it's just like
an empty folder, when I choose Rhythmbox the app launches but it doesn't
see the mp3 player.

I tried the SD/MMC card on my other test computer (Acer Aspire 5050-5410
laptop) and Jaunty mounted the card just finebut the mp3 has the same
results.

Update, the commands you gave me before actually did something! I didn't
know they created files in my Home folder, I'll attach the files right
now!

Sorry!
