I can't see how it wouldn't be related, since I got the exact same error message. In any case, it's fixed now in my machine - running Kubuntu KDE 4.2.96 (KDE 4.3 RC2). I can confirm this problem. I could solve it with the help of http://userbase.kde.org/Akonadi#Common_Problems. I think the problem is related to AppArmor. I have exactly the same problem, except that I installed Kubuntu Jaunty Beta from scratch.
