I'm having the same problem in 10.10 on an AMD-64 system. texlive is broken. I tried uninstalling every package it complained about started from scratch several times. It appears you cannot have texlive-base texlive-latex-base and tex-common coexisting which makes it a pretty limited tex system. If you google those three packages you'll turn up dozens of long discussions people are having trying to resolve this issue and so far no one has succeeded. Hi Michael, sorry about the late answer. The problem I am reporting is happening with my computer at work, so I couldn't do anything during the weekend. sudo apt-get install texlive-fonts-extra texlive-fonts-recommended fails and I get the usual complain about the minionpro.map not being found. The error outputs are the same as before. I retried your instructions from the previous email with no better luck. Finally, I followed the instructions you sent me. I started by installing the mnsymbol, since it's a requirement to install the MinionPro package. I downloaded the mnsymbol.zip from CTAN and unzipped it. Then: ~/mnsymbol/texlatex MnSymbol.ins This is pdfTeXk, Version 3.141592-1.40.3 (Web2C 7.5.6) %-line parsing enabled. kpathsea: Running mktexfmt latex.fmt I can't find the format file `latex.fmt'! I used tex MnSymbol.ins instead which seemed to work (output file is attached). I proceed with no problems until I got to the updmap-sys line. There I got the usual complain about MinionPro.map not being found... (attached file). I just don't understand now. MnSymbol requires MinionPro to be installed and MinionPro cannot be installed without MnSymbol... Am I doing something wrong ? Could you attach /tmp/updmap.jNN12254 This error message refers to that as the error log. Alrighty, this is starting to get beyond troubleshooting and I may need to find a developer to start looking into this pretty soon. Hi again Michael, sudo updmap --enable Map MinionPro.map gives errors since the MinionPro.map cannot be found. I'm attaching the error output but it's basically the same error as in the /tmp/updmap.jNN12254 file. sudo find / -name MinionPro.map doesn't find anything, and sudo apt- get install -f texlive-base fails also. Again, I'm attaching the report, but it is just a repetition of the previous error files. Googling a little bit I learned that MinionPro.map is a map created for Adobe fonts. These fonts are not installed in my computer and that's why I'm getting errors. The question is, how can I install these fonts ? or how can I make the latex installation proceed without these fonts ? This is irritating indeed. From what I'm seeing, it looks like it could be a font that was configured to be there but isn't. First try this, sudo apt-get install texlive-fonts-extra texlive-fonts-recommended Then check to see if that package will install. If it doesn't do the last thing I mentioned again. If that still doesn't work, then try following the instructions here: http://carlo-hamalainen.net/blog/?p=8 under Install the MinionPro package Please post a terminal log of every single thing you do - even the stuff that produces no errors.
