[Bug 355157] Re: Device /dev/video0 belongs to non-existant group video in Jaunty

2010-05-31 Thread Teej
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all
reported bugs in a timely manner.
There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and
your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a
lot if you could test the current Ubuntu version (10.04). If you can test it,
and it is still an issue, we would appreciate if you could upload updated logs
by running apport-collect bug #, and any other logs that are relevant for
this particular issue.

[Bug 355157] Re: Device /dev/video0 belongs to non-existant group video in Jaunty

2009-04-04 Thread Jon Charge
Thank you for your bug report. Just some clarification... I don't think
I understand exactly. The system worked until the video group was
created. Your asking for the video group to be there already?

Thanks,
Jon

[Bug 355157] Re: Device /dev/video0 belongs to non-existant group video in Jaunty

2009-04-04 Thread russofris
Clarification

Installed Jaunty - No video group exists
Plugged in Cam. Cam (/dev/video0) belongs to root:video (though no video group
exists) - Cam only accessible by root
I create group video, and add user frusso to group. User frusso can now
use the cam.
Unplug cam, plug in cam. Cam belongs to root:{NULL} . Users cannot access
cam.

The expected behavior:
Plug in Cam, users can access cam (with minimal fuss).

Ping me if this is not clear enough.

Frank

[Bug 355157] Re: Device /dev/video0 belongs to non-existant group video in Jaunty

2009-04-04 Thread Jon Charge
Much more clear, thank you. :)

Can you issue the following commands, and attach the logfiles generated?
  uname -a uname-a.log
  cat /proc/version_signature proc_version_signature.log
  sudo lspci -vvnn lspci-vvnn.log (those are 2 v's not a w)
  dmesg dmesg.log
  lsusb lsusb.log

Thank you for your help,

Jon

[Bug 355157] Re: Device /dev/video0 belongs to non-existant group video in Jaunty

2009-04-04 Thread russofris
It appears that V4L devices that are created are owned by group video
as per /lib/udev/rules.d/50-udev-default.rules. The issue seems to
be that group video does not seem to exist by default in Jaunty (no
entry in /etc/group).
