Sorry for the delay. I reopen this issue because the defect is still visible (I'm using 8.04.1). With the 3D desktop effect disabled: - It's still happening with Gnome and KDE 3.x - It's not happening with KDE 4.x - On Xfce, it's happening only when dropping the icon!? The Ubuntu artwork team made a pretty nice icon theme but it's a pity that dragging them we get a glitch effect. The priority of this issue is probably not high for you but it's opened for 2 years. Furthermore, please take into account that the priority of the look and feel of other OS is really high, no doubt. you said that the issue is not specific to GNOME? On my side I'm still able to reproduce the problem but only using the desktop without any 3D effect. The "glitch" is smoother now but still appears. Have a look at the newly attached file.
