Declining the Maverick specific nomination for now and leaving this open against the actively developed Ubuntu kernel (which happens to be Maverick at this time). This isn't really Ubuntu's fault, since it's the driver itself that controls the light on the mute button/touch-switch. Theoretically, it is the original sound driver creator's fault for not making a proper driver for Linux users to use, and resorting to having the default audio drivers on Ubuntu to run the show. Nonetheless, it's about time that some of the small things like this were fixed. Ubuntu is stable and beats the heck out of Windows and Mac OSes. Here's more precise information: on my laptop (Pavilion tx1219us), to get working sound recording, I use: options snd_hda_intel model=6stack-digout In this mode, the mute light stays red regardless of mute state. Similar problem with HP Pavilion tx1219. The mute light stays orange (muted) regardless of whether the sound is truly muted. The mute key does work when pressed. The problem is only that the current state of muting/unmuting does not get propagated to the leds.
