[Bug 361384] Re: No wireless-n support in Linux with Intel 4965AGN

2010-03-20 Thread cdahmedeh
Hello,

It seems that the issue has been fixed, connection manager shows speed
'unknown', which probably means it's more than 54Mbps. Wireless also
seems to be a bit faster.

Means that the issue has been fixed in kernel 2.6.32 onwards. Thanks

[Bug 361384] Re: No wireless-n support in Linux with Intel 4965AGN

2010-03-13 Thread Jeremy Foshee
Hi cdahmedeh,

Please be sure to confirm this issue exists with the latest development
release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/lucid . If the issue remains, please
run the following command from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal). It will automatically gather and
attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 361384

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would
be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the
issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once
you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-
testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon
next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and
deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your
results.

Thanks in advance.

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: New

 Bug description:
I currently own a Dell XPS m1530 with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor.. It
also includes a Intel Pro Wireless 4965AGN wireless network card. I have
noticed that I cannot connect to a network in draft-n mode. Instead, it will
connect at g speeds and I will only get g connectivity. That means speeds
does not pass 54 Mpbs nor I do get the enhanced n ranges. In order to check
that n is not working, I set my router to n-only mode rather than mixed mode
(a, b, g and n) and Ubuntu could not connect to that network. Setting it
back to g-mode or mixed mode allowed to connect to it, but only at g speeds.
I have heard that the wireless driver iwlagn is not compiled with n support.
I don't know how to confirm that. In fact, all the Linux distributions I
have used did not support n-mode such as Debian, Arch Linux, and older
versions of Ubuntu (Intrepid and Hardy). The backported modules did not
solve the problem either. Finally, in order to rule out a hardware problem,
booting up into Windows XP or Windows Vista, I was able to connect at
n-speed (that means 130Mpbs+) and got much better range.

 Specifications :
 Dell XPS m1530
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2 Ghz
 Intel Pro Wireless 4965 AGN
 Ubuntu Jaunty running Linux 2.6.28-11-generic

If I need to post the output of any logs or command line, please notify me
 to do so.

the problem isn't N speeds, it only reports it as 60 Mbps at most, when in
reality, it does connect at much higher speeds.

I have a simlar problem, but my connection is limited to 60Mbps as
reported by Network-Manager.

However, my wireless router indicates a connection of about 100-120
Mbps, and I'm very confused.

I would appreciate help on this as wel!!
