[Bug 368836] Re: gnome-panel freezes upon launching custom launchers
I think I may have this problem on 10.04LTS as well. To be honest, I don't know what 'custom application launchers are', but my gnome panel does freeze every time I start up. The main symptom I see is that the clock stops at whatever the time was when I logged in, but also, the network activity icon seems to be frozen on one of it's swirling images, even though the network is fully connected. Using 'killall gnome-panel' fixes this for me every time, but I have to do it on every boot. My assistive technologies option was disabled, so I enabled it, logged out/in, disabled it, logged out/in, then rebooted. After this, the problem still exists. I removed the ~/.gnome2 and ~/.gnome2_private directories and rebooted; this made no difference either. The desktop clock really is important to me. Having it show the wrong time is an absolute nuisance. Is this the same problem, or do I need to find another bug, or even file a new one? -- gnome-panel freezes upon launching custom launchers https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/368836 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Since this report have a long time without activity, please could you check (if is possible) in latest version included in Karmic if this issue is still happening? [Bug 368836] Re: gnome-panel freezes upon launching custom launchers
Also happened to me. I enabled assistive technologies some time ago, because I wanted a magnifier (is there a standalone magnifier in Gnome?). Switching them off also solved the problem (I had to relogin, but maybe I was not lucky enough). A nasty bug, critical for people who do not know how to switch to VTx and killall gnome-panel. -- gnome-panel freezes upon launching custom launchers https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/368836 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 368836] Re: gnome-panel freezes upon launching custom launchers
A few minutes ago, while I had "Enable assistive technologies" enabled, and all my Custom App Launchers began freezing gnome-panel again. I went to the Accessibility dialog and disabled "Enable assistive technologies", and closed the dialog. The freezing did not stop. I re-enabled it, and the freezing did not stop. Then I tried to replicate what I did last time, and I tooled around in the "Preferred Applications" sub-dialog of the "Assistive Technologies Preferences" dialog but did not change any options, and closed the dialog, then closed the Assistive Technologies Preferences dialog. Suddenly the freezing had stopped. It sort of seems like opening and closing the Preferred Applications dialog is what fixes it. I'll wait until it happens again and see if that's the case. -- gnome-panel freezes upon launching custom launchers https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/368836 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 368836] Re: gnome-panel freezes upon launching custom launchers
Sebastien, I went to the Accessibility dialog and un-checked "Enable assistive technologies" and closed the dialog. Afterwards, my gnome-panel did seem to stop freezing. I then went and re-checked the "Enable assistive technologies" checkbox, and gnome-panel continued to work properly, and I haven't seen any freezes since despite checking and unchecking this box a couple more times. I'll make sure to report any future freezes. -- gnome-panel freezes upon launching custom launchers https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/368836 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
