It turns out the problem I was having was because of a custom version of python-support I had installed, so it's not the same as this bug. How can you tell that it failed to configure when installing? I just installed it on a vanilla jaunty and it seemed to install successfully, but after that I can't import 'pyinotify' in a python (2.6 or 2.5) shell.
