[Bug 371795] Re: SHMconfig not possible for gsynaptics

2009-09-04 Thread Dirk
I saw that, but maybe we're looking at different versions of that wiki.
It talks about an HAL fdi file, which as you stated in #2 and as I
observed on my machine is being ignored in 9.10.

Dirk, that's the one thing currently does (and probably always will)
need SHMConfig. There's no other way to poke deep into the driver's
variables.

2009-09-04 Thread Dirk
William, you said that Ubuntu 9.10 doesn't need SHMConfig at all.
I am trying to figure out whether my touchpad recognizes two fingers. The
command "synclient -m 10" gives an error "Can't access shared memory area.
SHMConfig disabled?" Seems like it's looking for SHMConfig after all.

2009-07-05 Thread Dmitriy Geels
William, please see bug #355071 and tell, what what have I done wrong
way? Synaptics driver completely ignore all settings from HAL. That is
what bug report about.

I suppose, these bug reports should be marked as 'wontfix', as HAL is
deprecated now and will be discarded from 9.10.

A HAL FDI file does work in Ubuntu 9.04, and Ubuntu 9.10 doesn't need
SHMConfig at all.

2009-05-06 Thread Bryce Harrington
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xfree86-driver-synaptics

  Hello,

I bought a Samsung NC10 netbook last week and installed Ubuntu 9.04 UNR
on it. Here I had no problems with gsynaptics, synclient etc. I added
the shmconfig.fdi file to the /etc/hal/fdi/policy directory, rebooted
  and all works well.

Now I reinstalled Ubuntu 9.04 UNR, but with LVM2 and harddisk encryption
LUKS activated. Here neither the HAL solution nor the "old" one (by
  adding the code lines

  Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Synaptics Touchpad"
Driver "synaptics"
Option "SendCoreEvents" "true"
Option "Device" "/dev/psaux"
Option "Protocol" "auto-dev"
Option "HorizScrollDelta" "0"
Option "SHMConfig" "on"
  EndSection

  to /etc/X11/xorg.conf) work.

  Best regards!
