[Bug 372575] Re: [ubuntu jaunty] Blue Screen (w. death) on intel-video

2009-06-02 Thread Bryce Harrington
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

Running mythtv client under ubuntu 9.04 on two different systems, both
with intel graphics, results in either a blue screen with the system
remaining responsive, or in a complete system crash. Attemting to play
an mpg video on either system with Totem results in Totem crashing.

System 1: Acer Aspire One 110L with ubuntu jaunty UNR, default drivers,
fully updated. Mythtv client shows blue screen instead of video, but the
correct sound comes through. Does respond correctly to key presses, and
I can leave mythtv; the system stays up.

System 2: Intel motherboard D945GCLF2 (the one with Atom 330) with ubuntu
jaunty, using the intel-video 2.7 drivers from this repository: deb
http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates/ubuntu jaunty main
Here, mythtv can be started, but attempting to play video results in a brief
blue screen flicker and the system goes into a reboot.

Both systems: Opening a mpg video under Totem crashes Totem.

[Bug 372575] Re: [ubuntu jaunty] Blue Screen (w. death) on intel-video

2009-05-20 Thread Mal Gamble
Further to my earlier note about getting a blue screen with intel i810
video, I have worked around my problem by reverting to my original hardy
mythbuntu diskless image for the frontend. This is now served by my
Jaunty backend / server machine and is working well.

[Bug 372575] Re: [ubuntu jaunty] Blue Screen (w. death) on intel-video

2009-05-19 Thread ullix
Hi Bryce,

it has become a bit more complicated: after activation of a ppa
repository, the blue screen is fixed on both systems, but a black
screen showed up on one of them.

The activated repository - the same on both - is :
http://ppa.launchpad.net/xorg-edgers/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main

The xorg.conf is also the same empty default - except that the zap
option is enabled - on both.

The system 2 (atom330) works flawlessly with both mythtv-frontend showing
TV and totem playing an mpg videofile, even simultaneously. The lspci is
attached as atom330_lspci_-vvnn.txt.

The system 1 (aa1) also allows playing mpg with totem and mythtv-
frontend does show a proper TV picture, but after a while (~ 5 to 20
min) the screen turns black while the sound continues. Restarting X via
Ctrl-Alt-Backspace works as noticed by the login jingle, but no screen
picture whatsoever. I can change to a terminal via Ctrl-Alt-F1 and text
is shown. I can kill and restart X via commands, but then still the
X-screen remains black.

I tried reproducing the blue screen by forcing the original jaunty
driver xserver-xorg-video-intel, but no blue screen while the same black
screen. (maybe the libdrm* and libgl* files are actually the culprits?)

Attached next are the lspci -vvnn output and the Xorg.0.log.old (with the black
screen crash) and Xorg.0.log (after reboot) all from the aa1.

By the way: on the aa1 everything is fine when running EasyPeasy 1.1
(~intrepid) and also when running karmic from an installation on a USB stick.
On the latter I successfully ran two separate mythtv frontends simultaneously
each showing a separate TV channel for several hours, and all via wlan! (but it
can't find the mpg2 drivers for totem)

2009-05-17 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hi ullix,

Please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn`, and attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log
(and maybe Xorg.0.log.old) file from after reproducing this issue. If you've
made any customizations to your /etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that as well.

[This is an automated message. Apologies if it has reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 372575] Re: [ubuntu jaunty] Blue Screen (w. death) on intel-video

2009-05-15 Thread Mal Gamble
I have a similar problem with my Mythtv frontend. This is a Compaq
Deskpro Pentium III system with on-board Intel i810 video with reference
number 8086:1132.

When I try to watch TV with Mythtv, I just get a blue screen. Sound
works correctly and it responds keypresses, so I can back out of TV mode
and shut the system down normally.

I've tried various changes to xorg.conf and tried reverting to xserver-
xorg-video-intel-2.4, with no change to the symptons.

I have not figured out how to revert to an earlier version of the intel
driver. The frontend works well under Hardy.
