[Bug 372824] Re: lid switch on HP 6930p works only after running on battery
Note this bug appears to also affect my HP Compaq 6710b. Like the 6910p everything was fine in 9.10 but I am now seeing the exact same behaviour as detailed above, including the docking station behaviour. ** Summary changed: - lid switch on HP 6930p works only after running on battery + lid switch on HP 6930p, 6710b works only after running on battery -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/372824 Title: lid switch on HP 6930p, 6710b works only after running on battery -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 372824] Re: lid switch on HP 6930p works only after running on battery
Hello, This is a regression for Lucid from Karmic. I can confirm that this is a bug in 10.04.1 LTS in pm-utils on an HP6910p laptop. It is not a kernel bug per se. If I close the lid on my laptop on AC power it will not suspend. It will suspend on battery using the lid close method. It will suspend, either on AC or on Battery, using the CLI or using the GUI menu, or using the Fn+F3 key combo. This laptop suspended/resumed & hibernateed/thawed perfectly in Karmic Koala 9.10. I believe that this is a regression in the PM-UTILS package. I can make the laptop suspend on AC power using the lid IFF I first install laptop-mode-tools and configure /etc/default/acpi-support to include using the now DEPRECATED acpi-support as a suspend method AS WELL AS configuring laptop-mode-tools to use ACPI-SUPPORT on Battery,AC, and AC with Lid Closed. Interestingly, if I boot the laptop on a docking station ("dock" module is specified in /etc/modules file)n wherein the laptop gets AC power, then the suspend by lid DOES NOT work. Examination of the laptop mode configuration file shows that "Enable laptop mode when lid closed" has been set to 0 (or turned-off). Q: Is the package PM-UTILS re-writting the laptop-mode-tools config file? And if so, can this be hacked to prevent? I'm thinking that an ugly hack would simply be to change the file permission on the laptop- mode-tools config file. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/372824 Title: lid switch on HP 6930p works only after running on battery -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 372824] Re: lid switch on HP 6930p works only after running on battery
Changed package to pm-utils. Sorry to hassle you for more information, but are you able to try this in Karmic please? If so, can you please execute the following command, as it will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal: apport-collect 372824 This will help us to find and resolve the problem. Bear in mind that you may need to install the python-launchpadlib package from the universe repository. Additionally, when prompted to give apport-collect permissions for Launchpad you will need to give it at least the ability to "Change Non-Private" data as it will be adding information to your bug report. [Bug 372824] Re: lid switch on HP 6930p works only after running on battery
Actually, any power supply transition seems to kick it into the good state. Booting on battery, the lid switch is broken, if I plug in AC, then the lid switch works, and I can then go back and forth between battery and AC and the lid switch keeps working. Booting on AC, the lid switch is broken, if I unplug the AC power, then the lid switch works, and I can then go back and forth between battery and AC and the lid switch keeps working. [Bug 372824] Re: lid switch on HP 6930p works only after running on battery
This may be related to bug 321153 or bug 277534, which seem to be about lid switch events not arriving on other HP hardware. But since those bug reports involve both different hardware and an earlier Ubuntu release (Intrepid, which worked for me) I thought it's best to file a new bug. -- lid switch on HP 6930p works only after running on battery https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/372824 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
