[Bug 37288] Re: Bluetooth not discovered on Dell Inspiron 9400
I have installed the Lucid RC (via WUBI) on a Dell M2010 with the dreaded Dell 350 bluetooth card, and can confirm that the issue has not been resolved at kernel 2.6.32-22. The Bluetooth light is "happily" lit, but the keyboard and mouse will not connect. "HCI" commands are either ignored or return a "no devices" message. I'd really like to get this "beautiful monster" working with Ubuntu (and be able to throw away Vista). Some have suggested that Kubuntu has a better chance of working, I will try that next. The business of using XP or Vista to "downgrade" something or other is beyond my level of competence. However, since this is a WUBI installation, Vista is still available. Also, the first time I loaded the liveCD of Lucid, Vista was in its sleeping mode, with the power off, but not "shut down". I was able then to tease the keyboard and mouse into working. I was elated to find it working, but alas, it did not continue to do so after an official "shut down". I might try removing the WUBI installation as it is now, starting up Vista and putting it into its power off "sleep' mode and then trying to reinstall the WUBI thing then. Any thoughts of encouragement or discouragement would be greatly appreciated. I might also try to find a USB Bluetooth dongle known to work with Ubuntu, and just plug it in. The cost is very small. D'Link DBT 120 doesn't work either. Alex, As the originator of this particular bug, I'd like to see if you have tested this against the lastest Alpha3 or daily build of Lucid. If you could, please be sure to also confirm this issue exists with the latest development release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report. apport-collect -p linux 37288 Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . [Bug 37288] Re: Bluetooth not discovered on Dell Inspiron 9400
The 2.6.27.4 kernel from kernel.org does not resolve this bug. Test system: Dell D820 Workaround applied: 1. installed XP into the full version of Virtualbox, 2. enabled Virtualbox to access the /proc/bus/usb virtual file system (remounted with devgid= the group id of vboxusers group) 3. removed the usbhid module to allow virtualbox to pick up the device instead (modprobe -r usbhid) 4. downloaded and installed the Vista to XP firmware downgrade tool from http://support.us.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R157674&formatcnt=1&libid=0&fileid=210380 5. suspended the virtual XP image. lsusb output before: Bus 001 Device 005: ID 413c:8105 Dell Computer Corp. U2 in HID - Driver and after: Bus 001 Device 008: ID 413c:8103 Dell Computer Corp. Wireless 350 Bluetooth Note: the DFU tool that comes with the original download link in the bug description seems broken. It claims that "resource dll is missing" and aborts. The link in step 4 above works fine. -- Bluetooth not discovered on Dell Inspiron 9400 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/37288 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 37288] Re: Bluetooth not discovered on Dell Inspiron 9400
The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. There are one of two ways you should be able to test: 1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux- image-2.6.27-* package is currently available for you to install and test. --or-- 2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4. Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced. You should then be able to test via a LiveCD. Please let us know immediately if this newer 2.6.27 kernel resolves the bug reported here or if the issue remains. More importantly, please open a new bug report for each new bug/regression introduced by the 2.6.27 kernel and tag the bug report with 'linux-2.6.27'. Also, please specifically note if the issue does or does not appear in the 2.6.26 kernel. Thanks again, we really appreicate your help and feedback. ** Tags added: cft-2.6.27 -- Bluetooth not discovered on Dell Inspiron 9400 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/37288 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I have a Wireless 350 Bluetooth module from Dell in my Dell Latitude D620. The default deviceId is 413c:8103. But till yesterday it was set to 413c:8105 in Ubuntu??? After reading that thread, I created a partition for windows xp, ran the firmware upgrade utility for the Wireless 350 Bluetooth module from Dell * (DFU.exe), rebooted into Linux and now my deviceId is back the default: `lsusb`: Bus 005 Device 005: ID 413c:8103 Dell Computer Corp. [Bug 37288] Re: Bluetooth not discovered on Dell Inspiron 9400
this is still an issue with 2.6.20-16. I see some notes on the forum about reflashing the firmware of the bluetooth card, but the optimum soln would be to change our driver to meet the new state of this product. I'll check upstream to see if this is an issue there as well. -- Bluetooth not discovered on Dell Inspiron 9400 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/37288 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 37288] Re: Bluetooth not discovered on Dell Inspiron 9400
Yes, confirmed that by booting into windows, then linux, the usb id changes to 413c:8103 and the bluez stack works. I am using my bluetooth adapter now to post this message. So this Dell 350 is akin to a winmodem now? Do we need some sort of ndiswrapper-alike to use the vista driver? -- Bluetooth not discovered on Dell Inspiron 9400 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/37288 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 37288] Re: Bluetooth not discovered on Dell Inspiron 9400
The initial bug reporter couldn't see the bluetooth adapter in lspci, i'm almost sure this is some mini-usb connector. I bought my Dell 350 board after buying my e1505, so I installed it. Worked 50-50 with edgy, same with feisty. You can see the card with lsusb instead of lspci. I think the forum thread showing the vista conflict may be spot on. I have vista home preium on another partition, and noted that my bluetooth works _more_ at home than it does in the office. But I only boot feisty at work. I am more apt to reboot from windows without shutting off laptop and then boot feisty. Which is the methed that supposedly reports the firmware as 413c:8103. I will do a couple of reboots in a few minutes and see if the bluetooth usb id changes based on which os is booted first. [Bug 37288] Re: Bluetooth not discovered on Dell Inspiron 9400
I have a Dell Latitude D620, which included (according to the "Compatible systems" link at the bottom of http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R129472&SystemID=LATITUDE%20D620&servicetag=&os=WW1&osl=en&deviceid=7388&devlib=0&typecnt=0&vercnt=2&catid=-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=5&fileid=172476 ) a Dell 350 Bluetooth module. BT is enabled in the BIOS, and the BT LED on my computer is shining happily. However: 'hciconfig' gives no output, 'hcitool dev' shows only the 'Devices:' header, and 'hcitool scan' tells me that "Device is not available: No such device". However, the BT device shows up on the USB bus, 'lsusb' tells me: Bus 001 Device 005: ID 413c:8105 Dell Computer Corp. Apparently, this can be caused by a Vista-specific firmware "upgrade" from Dell that sabotages the BT module, see http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=2308248 Like the participant in that thread, I no longer have Vista or XP installed. I tried to download the Windows driver from Dell to download it with dfutool http://www.holtmann.org/linux/bluetooth/dfu.html. The file, R129472.EXE, can be 'unzip'ped to BtSwSP2.exe, which 'cabextract' can decompose into a set of DLLs and such. I'm not sure how to proceed from there, though. (dfutool is not packaged with bluez-utils in Ubuntu, should I file that as a separate feature request/bug?) -k -- Bluetooth not discovered on Dell Inspiron 9400 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/37288 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
