I have had no problems at all running 64 bit Fedora 12 on the same
machine. (see my previous comment) You guys might want to check to see
what's different in Fedora.

I should point out that when any of the above are frozen, lsusb hangs
and fails to respond to ^C, thereby also hanging the terminal in which I
run it. Two minutes later, I get a kernel error about a 120 second
deadlock/block.

[Bug 374458] Re: Random Logitech Wireless Mouse Freeze (Kubuntu 9.04)

2010-05-13 Thread Jon Ogilvie
I'm just throwing in that I have this issue on Lucid and have had it
since Intrepid(!) or maybe it was Jaunty... it's been so long... I have
a USB and PS/2 keyboard plugged in simultaneously, and occasionally the
USB one will freeze, while I still have access to the PS/2 one. My USB
mouse freezes much more often, and most often the keyboard--which is
plugged into the same USB port, as I'm using a KVM switch--continues to
operate.

I'm running Ubuntu Karmic, 2.6.32-22-server x64.
nvidia-current 195.36.15-0ubuntu3,
xserver-common 2:1.7.6-2ubuntu7,
xserver-xorg 1:7.5+5ubuntu1,
xserver-xorg-core 2:1.7.6-2ubuntu7,
xserver-xorg-input-all 1:7.5+5ubuntu1,
xserver-xorg-input-evdev 1:2.3.2-5ubuntu1,
xserver-xorg-input-mouse 1:1.5.0-1.

Hardware:
Phenom x4 9500,
8GB DDR2,
XFX GeForce 8300 motherboard,
GeForce 9800GTX graphics,
USB mouse (Microsoft),
USB keyboard,
PS/2 keyboard,
Several external USB card readers (empty) and an external USB hard drive,
USB KVM through which keyboard and mouse are plugged in,
USB attached to my UPS

Forums have suggested everything from disabling legacy USB support in
BIOS (tried it, didn't work) to disabling compiz (tried it, and it made
the freezes much less frequent until upgrade to Lucid) to disabling
mythtv(!) which also didn't work.

2009-12-23 Thread Chris
hi, i am using ubuntu 9.04 aka jaunty [ 64 bit ]. My USB mouse too
freezes randomly. its pretty annoying as in a day i need to reboot
atleast thrice. The Microsoft Optical mouse just freezes. Everything
else is working fine. the only way to get out of it is to use
Ctrl+Alt+Del and restart the machine. Please solve the bug soon.

[Bug 374458] Re: Random Logitech Wireless Mouse Freeze (Kubuntu 9.04)

2009-06-29 Thread chris dock
I am using using ubuntu 9.04 64 bit ( not kubuntu) but I have an
interesting observation.

With all the talk about nvidia drivers i managed to start the nvidia tool ( i
have version 180 installed)
and shortly after that I was having problems where the mouse button was
non-responsive. I did notice
that when I clicked on things within that application, the mouse was being
properly recognized but
I was not able to click on the close button.

The interesting part is when I clicked on the system menu, it reset my menu
selection within the
nvidia app to the first item. The mouse cursor does move anywhere on the
screen but it seems
that the nvidia app ( or probably any application ) is not releasing the mouse,
is still the only
recipient of the interrupts or mouse click messages.

After closing the nvidia app with alt-f4, then the mouse was able to be
recognized by the system
menu.

[Bug 374458] Re: Random Logitech Wireless Mouse Freeze (Kubuntu 9.04)

2009-06-22 Thread KRK
In my case it is always the USB wireless mouse that freezes, not the PS2
mouse. Seems somewhat random as the first poster had the problem with
both USB and PS2 mice, I have it only with USB mice, and PS2 is rock
stable and you have the reverse situation. Generally it seems to be USB
mice that are crashing, some instances of USB keyboards as well.

The upgrade to a new kernel (2.6.28-13 generic) a couple of days ago has
made my instability problem worse, not better.

No other USB resource fails to function when the USB mouse crashes so it
has to be the USB mouse driver itself I guess.

I've had both Logitech and Microsoft USB wireless mice and that seems to
make no difference.

Most likely to occur in Firefox and on eBay, but has also occurred right
after booting up.

2009-06-22 Thread Juliano Zaban
Hello! I'm back...

ewgray, this is veeery strange, because I changed my mouse for a Basic
Microsoft USB mouse too and now everything is just fine! So, the problem
occurs only with PS/2 mice. And it's more strange, because I always use
this PS/2 mouse, with other versions of Ubuntu, with this same
configuration without problems. It seems to be a problem with 64 bits
platforms too, wright?

I am having the same problem both with upgraded (8.10 -> 9.04) and fresh
install of 9.04 amd64.

Basic Microsoft USB Mouse will will freeze randomly, typically when
running Banshee and / or firefox.

I have not experienced the problem on 32bit version.

Running ASUS M3N-H with Phenom AM2 quad chip. GeForce 8300.

Seems to be common but I there seems to be no resolution available.

1 CD Recorder drive + 1 DVD Recorder drive (both LG)
Philco 15" CRT Flat Monitor
PS2 keyboard + PS2 Mouse
DLink USB Camera
Epson CX 5600 USB printer/scanner

That's all...
Can anyone help with this issue?

Thanks!

2009-06-16 Thread Julien Lavergne
I also have this problem, when using 2 different USB and wireless
keyboard/mouse.
I confirmed that it's under 64 bits (didn't test on 32 bits). Problem on both
Ubuntu Jaunty and Debian Sid.
Also, plug them on PS/2 workaround the problem. But when there is only USB ...

I tried to debug it with evtest program, but nothing anormal appear when
the freeze happen (no different output).

Also, no log seems to be usefull (dmesg, Xorg.log etc ... didn't show
anormal output).

Any way to debug usb or evdev driver a bit more ?

I also have this same problem. The mouse and keyboard freeze up after a
few minutes of use. The only think I can do is shut it off the nasty
way, since I cannot restart the X server or reboot using the keyboard.

Right now I am going to try to set up an sshd on it so I can log in
remotely and try to snoop around and see what is going on.

I am running Kubuntu 9.04 on two other (32 bit) machines with no
problems. The problem machine is 64 bit. It worked fine with the
previous version of Kubuntu. The problems started immediately upon
upgrading to 9.04.

2009-05-17 Thread KRK
I have temporarily enabled the feature in universal access to allow me
to use certain keys as a mouse on my keyboard to affect an orderly
shutdown once the mouse fails. This works ok. Tonight I have had 3
random mouse freezes. Sometimes I have to shut off power to the pc in
order to clear this error. (If I don't the freeze usually occurs very
quickly - almost like some register somewhere is not getting cleared or
is overflowing?) Otherwise depending on what I am doing a freeze may be
15 minutes to an hour away or immediate.

2009-05-17 Thread KRK
I have been having similar problems on Jaunty 9.04 AMD64 with both a Logitech
Mouseman Wireless (long discontinued) which supported both PS2 and USB. I was
using USB exclusively. I tossed this mouse and replaced it with a brand new
Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse 2000 (USB) and am still having random mouse
freezes which require a reboot.
There appears to be little rythm or reason to the crashes and I have not be
able to gather any data. Everything else including the keyboard continues to
work.

2009-05-10 Thread Tim Sweeney
Thanks, Martin.

While waiting for the mouse to freeze so I can give you the post-failure
evtest, let me get started by attaching the other requested data, and
answering your questions.

The mouse is part of a keyboard/mouse combo purchased several years ago
locally. Unfortunately, the model number has long worn off the mouse,
but it appears to be an M-RR95. A search on Logitech's web page turns up
no details. The receiver has both a USB connector and a PS/2 connector
(labeled mouse) hard-wired, so I tried it both ways.

Current Operating System: Linux bed 2.6.27-gentoo-r8 #2 SMP PREEMPT Sun Apr 5

[Bug 374458] Re: Random Logitech Wireless Mouse Freeze (Kubuntu 9.04)

2009-05-10 Thread Martin Olsson
Can you please attach "lsusb -v" recorded while the mouse is connected to the
machine?
Also, please save the output of "dmesg" after connecting the mouse and attach
that as well.

Is this mouse an USB mouse that you occasionally use together with a USB
-> PS/2 converter?

Can you provide a link to exact logitech wireless mouse you're using? (a
link to a webstore or something that carries some basic technical data
would be useful).

Which are the xserver, kernel and evdev versions you're running in
Gentoo? (the bits that work)

Finally, can you please run this debug analysis tool? Basically you need to run
"find /dev/input/event*" before and after plugging in the device and that way
you can figure
out what its "/dev/input/eventX" entry is and then you pass that to the evtest
program.
It would be useful to have evtest dumps recorded both when the device is
working, but most
importantly when the device has stopped working.

The evtest debugging tool is available here:
http://people.freedesktop.org/~whot/evtest.c
