[Bug 376521] Re: /dev/pilot link is not always created correctly
/lib/udev/rules.d/40-pilot-links.rules is provided by the udev package. It is not a bug for pilot-link. ** Changed in: pilot-link (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/376521 Title: /dev/pilot link is not always created correctly -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 376521] Re: /dev/pilot link is not always created correctly
Um, yeah. Pass the buck a couple of times, wait two years, then declare invalid. Awesome bug handling. Of course, my last palm died sometime in that two years, so I don't personally care any more, but really. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/376521 Title: /dev/pilot link is not always created correctly -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 376521] Re: /dev/pilot link is not always created correctly
At least with jpilot using usb: doesn't seem to work for me. Whether I press the button in jpilot then the hotsync button on the palm, or the other way around, it never seems to connect. -- /dev/pilot link is not always created correctly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/376521 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 376521] Re: /dev/pilot link is not always created correctly
The file /lib/udev/rules.d/40-pilot-links.rules comes from the udev package. So it is a udev bug if the symlink is not correct. Two remarks: - you should/shall use usb: instead of /dev/pilot for USB Palm devices - the Debian udev package do not provide the /lib/udev/rules.d/40-pilot-links.rules file. It looks like the udev package is not shared between Ubuntu and Debian :-(. This bug should be reassigned to the udev package.
Well, jpilot and the other pilot link tools don't technically *need* the symlink - you can point them at whatever device you want, though /dev/pilot is the default in most cases. But that's kind of missing the point. Since the port devices are dynamically assigned, how else are programs supposed to locate the Palm device - udev is all about working with the information to pick the right ttyUSB device, pilot-link would have to go grovelling for it. mulberryst:~$ apt-cache policy libpisock9 libpisock9: Installed: 0.12.3-5ubuntu6 Candidate: 0.12.3-5ubuntu6 Version table: *** 0.12.3-5ubuntu6 0 500 http://proxy jaunty/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status -- /dev/pilot link is not always created correctly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/376521 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

David, what is the result of the command $ apt-cache policy libpisock9 -- /dev/pilot link is not always created correctly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/376521 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 376521] Re: /dev/pilot link is not always created correctly
You can't. This is considered to be a pilot-link problem for requiring the symlink in the first place ** Package changed: udev (Ubuntu) = pilot-link (Ubuntu) -- /dev/pilot link is not always created correctly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/376521 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
